New Carrizo Benchmarks

Opcode

It comes in at 15,45 and 65 watts

I can't imagine the CPU part being much better (If at all) better than Kaveri in that case otherwise they have some seriously good stuff coming

They are really focused at lower power, and they made huge improvements from what we see.

Wow, I wonder what the Carrizo notebooks will be like in terms of pricing, I might get one to game on

Probably a fair amount like 650-1000$ range for a8/a10. If Dell made a XPS 9343 with it I'll buy it in a heartbeat.

Well that's a significant improvement. Means we might actually be able to go round to our console friends houses and get similar performance as them on a cheapish laptop that costs a similar price to their "next-gen" machine and still have more functionality.

Well I think the biggest improvement is Architecture improvement on the cores and the 33% Bus efficiency they got in Tonga. Can bring a fair amount of performance to the table.

Not you apparently but some people care about apu news.

Dick lol

Or are you just talking about the comparison?

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

I think this may be a 2nd repost of this, but this one has a bit more detail

First post on LTT: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/291763-new-carrizo-benchmarks/

If you look at the WCCF article where it mentions results were spotted it actually links to the thread above on LTT

It is great, that APUs are finally on par with the current gen consoles and will beat them in the coming years, but the consoles still remain an advantage, that they all have the exact same hardware. Therefore the APUs need to be much faster in order to output the same amount of FPS. But we are moving rapidly towards the right direction and I am happy :)

Hopefully AMDs new management will result in better and more effective solutions in a years to come.

The comparison. Who cares if it's like a PS4.. How is that relevant at all?

Maybe Sony might actually start using them, since they have such low power consumption (a priority for consoles, hence the low performance), and relatively high graphics performance.

I'm going to open my big, stupid mouth and ask a stupid question.

Didn't the PS4 and Xbone already use APUs? Wasn't it the Jaguar APUs or something?

If it was, doesn't that just mean that Carrizo has the same performance as a few-generations-old APU?

Wat

I'm confused

So... all of a sudden the PS4's graphics are good enough?

I don't really play many games for gameplay anymore honestly. I play most games just for the graphics.

Yes, it's not that they weren't before, it's that they didn't offer performance or quality on par to any of the enthusiast options.

This is really exciting for AMD.  I hope they won't get near any shovels with this new release.

So if they cram that into a tablet. Gaming on a tablet would actually be possible! Sweet!

I'm really starting to get excited over APUs, if they're getting as powerful as a console, and runs in my notebook, that's awesome!

Yay!!!

Why does AMD name their architectures after construction vehicles? Excavator, bulldozer, steam roller, etc.

There won't be a desktop version of Carrizo.
