AMD Stealthily Slashes HD 7970 Ghz/7970 Prices.

TechFan@ic

It appears as though AMD is paving the way for the rumored 9970/Hawaii XT & has slashed prices of the 7900 series significantly.

You can grab a custom cooled 7970 from sapphire for $300 after an MIR and for 320-330 without the rebate.

You can also grab a 7970 Ghz Edition from Sapphire for $350 after an MIR, $370 without the aforementioned rebate.

Same story with the 7950, $260 with an MIR for a custom cooled card from sapphire, $280 without the MIR.

With the first Sapphire 7970 from Newegg, with the rebate and the games, you're effectively paying $130.

I'm pretty sure AMD has nothing to do with sales and MIR offers...

You'd be wrong

This is awesome, I just mocked up a build I;'m gonna do after I get a new job and it was gonna cost me $4500, this will save me ~$200 off of that

Damn, I thought with the GTX770 just being a rebadged GTX680 AMD would have left the 7970 price the same as both the 7970 and GTX 770 are neck and neck and the 7970 getting the edge in multi-monitor with the extra vram. Nice to see they are trying to bring down prices since Nvidia is charging hand over fist for their card, with the never settle bundle and the lower price as well as similar performance I see no reason why anyone would go for the GTX770. factor everything in and your getting one hell of a bang for your buck. I dont think Nvidia realizes that not everyone is going to buy a $650 - $1000 dollar card and the real money to be made is in the mid range cards. Im glad to see this as prices have been running rampant this past year.

It isn't just the 7970s either, I could buy a second WF 7950 for 250 euros to do crossfire with if I had the cash to hand. Last year you were lucky to get a 7850 reference card for that kind of money.

Isn't it more likely that this is simply a response to the GeForce 770? AMD wants to maintain their status of price-performance leadership.

AMD's original response was slashing the 7970 Ghz price from $459 to $419, now the price is 369$ which is an additional 50$ price cut.
