Anthrax 8.0 - Let's build it again!

TheProfosist

Tech Enthusiasts I am in need of your help. This is not the normal thing I ask for with say PimpMyPC. ASUS has once again sent me a bad motherboard though RMA (multiple time now for this board) and I need your help. https://goo.gl/35SV47

This is for my X79-Deluxe that was replaced with the Sabertooth X99 now in this build. I have subsequently sold it to a close friend. It was put in storage in its retail packaging after being replaced until it found its new owner. Once pulled out it would no longer POST and gave a 00 error code with the CPU LED on. This means the CPU is bad or incompatible. I RMA'd the board being that CPU's rarely die. The replacement board which had a different serial and all the stickers on also didnt POST. The next logical step would be the CPU which just cam in before my work shift yesterday, a brand new one from Intel. System still throws the same error, meaning ASUS once again sent be a bad board in an RMA.

The reason im so irked is that I have went through this before with my Sabertooth X79 which took 2 advanced RMA's to get a working one. This one is by far the worst. Previously ive had ones that wont detect the keyboard, have bad temp sensors, and even a bad SATA controller. I'm getting pretty sick of this shitty warranty service. The Sabertooth finally got fixed after JJ emailed me and I was send a refurb in like retail refurb packaging.

Please if you would retweet and even favorite that tweet, hell comment too. Anything you all can do to get it a little on their radar can be of help. Try to get others you know to as well if you could. Sorry to ask this all of you but I super appreciate it!

Are you located in the US? My A88XM-PLUS straight up came back to me from ASUS after being "user damaged" ASUSes customer support is horrible. @KingCry had to RMA his Sabertooth Z87 four times. Racking up a $100 in shipping costs. ASUS Motherboards are so good yet they can't treat there customers who keep buying ASUS boards.

Yes I am. Any time I have to send a board back more than once especially when I receive a bad one I make sure they pay shipping both ways since it's their fuck up.

Been my experience with X79 at least great unless your board breaks the good luck getting a working board.

  • 4 weeks later...

I have actually had a number of updates on this build. For the most part I have done these through my twitter http://goo.gl/Yrqogx luckily this forum has twitter integration so that will probably be the method I post in progress updates from now on. Hopefully this is understandable. The proper full updates will likely still have their own posts like with ThePylon but not having code view is going to make this far far harder for me...

it may seem like im spamming but a ton has happened with this build since the last time this thread has really been updated.

PIcked up the Samsung 950 Pro 512GB shortly after it was announced to replace my SM951 256GB that I planned to use. The old SSD was sold off to a friend for their Skylake build. https://goo.gl/AOAlWd

Slightly before the 950 Pro I did grab a nearly 1TB Crucial SSD for editing initially. It will now more likely be for games. The SSD cached RAID10 should be plenty for editing and this was I can have a drive dedicated to games.  https://goo.gl/LcrHno

Finally got everything in needed for the mock up to be able to measure out the tubing correctly. https://goo.gl/nL0PvB

Thought that I might run out of tubing with all the changes I made since the initial planning phases. FrozenCPU is now bunk and PerformancePCs doesnt carry norprene tubing (not neoprene). Anyone know of any places that would carry it in the sizes needed for water cooling? https://goo.gl/V7txqo

Since the Nanoxia Deep Silence 6 is such a huge case I still needed extensions for get the power cables nicely routed where I wanted them to go. https://goo.gl/Eht977

With the help of a buddy of mine we cleanly planned out the tubing runs which was actually easier than expected. https://goo.gl/PAB0vt

The Nanoxia Deep Silence 6 was actually designed to fit a dual socket motherboard. Sadly I dont have one. The second CPU cutout is a massive hole that looks horrible. I devised a way that I think blends in nicely to conceal it. For now im going to keep it under wraps though, especially what I used to create it. https://goo.gl/6Wlo8o

There have been a number of rumors around the 950 Pro SSDs over heating and thermal throttling. I already have 2 140mm side panel fans but the M.2 slot in the Thermal Armor of the Sabertooth X99 doesnt have great airflow over the SSD so I decided to open it up a bit. https://goo.gl/1NKtnA

After over two years of me trying to get my main rig back in working order I finally have water flowing in it. The leak test has started! Its been quite a journey up until this point. https://goo.gl/Du65c4

Its time to start some cable management. hopefully its cable porn in the making. I really do enjoy the time spent on this. I think cable management could  almost be considered an art. https://goo.gl/WuvIXp

As always with my builds a liberal use of cable ties is to be expected. I plan to keep all of the cut-odd's. Any ideas how many cable ties will be used in the process of cable managing this build? https://goo.gl/0aegqX

I think that I go for too much perfection with my cable management. But with how many cables need to fit in even with this big case its go to be nearly perfect. https://goo.gl/ea2Btb

Anyone remember the old school PC speaker I found out of an old Ultra case. Well I nearly forgot about. Once I remembered I tried a couple different places it could be. https://goo.gl/lC6kHI

Completed the cable management of the front I/O. This case really needs to come with longer cables for them. I had to use two extensions to get them over to where they needed to be. https://goo.gl/ELX2wt

When doing a full loop of watercooling dont forget to always do through tests on all your hardware. All of mine has been completely vetted so i foresee no hardware issues. https://goo.gl/iV4dvk

Well the cable on the speaker was quite ugly and ended up being not long enough so i ended up making my own cable that would be plenty long. I think it turned out quite well. https://goo.gl/kauqPa

Progress has been made on the cable management. The fan cables are probably one of the things that take up the most room. With how I want to control them I have to be rather careful with what I plug in where. https://goo.gl/Mht3Jz
