wtf atom cpu = nope for me i want broadwell

atoms go down to the <4W that is needed for USB powered. you dont want a 15W Broadwell-U part, when the USB port can provide 10W of power ;)

And even if you go with like a 8W Core M part, you still need to power the RAM, eMMC, HDMI and USB ports, Bluetooth and WiFi antennas, and the logic board

plus (im not sure about this) but is the CoreM even an SOC?

This is great for TV or even for someone who will just web surf.

Imagine just getting a monitor and that stick that you connect on the back. It can turn any monitor (with HDMI), into a all-in-one solution. Make sure the monitor has a powered USB hub built-in, and you are completely set, with no messy wires. Can even be a kitchen computer if are able to get a monitor with a touch screen.

Like you can plug it with the Dell S2240t a 350$ touch screen monitor, 1080p has HDMI:

dell-s2240t-overview1.jpg

All you'll have is a power cable for the monitor (actually you may need a USB hub if yo want wired keyboard/mouse as this monitor doesn't, but you get the idea)

I've seen stuff like this before. Pretty cool, albeit rarely practical.

they should have waited for USB 3.1 with the 100 watts of power support...

that way they could of put a Broadwell chip.

These sticks come with extensions so you don't have to leave them hanging on your tv so they shouldn't break.

Intel Curie

BK_Button2_TW_678x452.jpg

No specs provided, they just showed this. All we know is that it has 384kB storage. Yes.. not even 1MB.

Source: http://www.anandtech.com/show/8848/intel-announces-curie-tiny-module-for-wearables

IoT comes to life with intel it seems, the thingy arm is doing, is it M## or whatever, just killed by intel haha

Seemed good until I saw the price.

With those specs (Atom) it should be ~100 dollars or less.

indeed, its slightly pricy, but thats msrp no?

Dunno if that price is with an os too. What if it comes with W8.1 and Bing? Maybe it'll be priced even lower?

It's nice to see x86 making footwork in the industry as I primarily develop for that specific architecture. I'll see if I can get my hands on a unit for development/review.  :)

It is Windows 8.1 with Bing, just checked. It's more the Intel tax on it.

Much like their SSD's. But the premium price isn't really that high. 120$ or 150$. It's not 30$ that will block you from buying it.

At least you know that Intel does it, and not some unknown Chinese company, where you have 0 warranty, 0 after sale service, cheapo built quality. I would pay 30$ more for that. Sure cheaper is better, but not too bad.

Depending on the person this is extremely practical. Perfect for HTPCs when all you are going to do is stream from a network. Although I'd still go with a $150 chromebox over this as I'd need a USB powered hub and would rather it was in a nice single package.

If this is a J1900 CPU (pry not as I think it consumes more than 10W of power... but maybe) then it is more than powerful enough for your average person browsing Facebook.

I am extremly excited for this. There are a ton of particle uses for it. At $150 I want one for each of my TVs and one to carry around with me in case I find a need for it when I'm not home.

It's not "just 30 dollars".

The Nexus Player which also has a quad core Atom processor and a bunch of other stuff is only 99 dollars.

They both has their pros and cons but at the end of the day this one shouldn't be 50% more expensive.

Considering Win 8.1 itself is $100. You're getting a full blown computer for just $50... wow...

Well this is Windows 8.1 With Bing so Intel isn't actually paying for it. It's a free version of Windows.
