Harrynowl's ULTIMATE CPU Showdown! (WIP)

Hmm Well i got 3 LGA 775 CPUs with me

I got one Pentium 4 3.0GHz, Core 2 Duo E6420 2.13GHz and the Core 2 Duo E7200

both Core 2 Duo CPUs are tested working. WIll try the Pentium 4 soon

I manage to find the 775 mobo that i can get which supports DDR3

my plan was to run the 2.53GHz CPU with 8GB DDR3 and get a cheap 1TB HDD in a new case for better cable management and HDD mounting

You can get G41-Combo boards from MSI that support DDR3 & DDR2 :)

Is that pentium 4 by any chance a 630? Because that's the model this computer came with.

It's either a 630 (Prescott) or 631 (Cedar Mill), I'm using a 631 in my testing :)

not sure the exact model

the marking says it a 3GHz with 1MB cache and 800MHz FSB

Damn, so it will suffer from the 'Sudden Prescott Death Syndrome', if pushed just that little bit too hard.

I saw the Gigabyte model which seem to be a better board

Hmm... both Prescott and Cedar Mill have 2MB of L2. It may be a Celeron D?

Intel's 90nm Process at its best.

Lol, yep. I heard today though that someone was able to push theirs to over 20GHz stable on LN2 (well, it posted, then fried)

20GHz? I doubt it pretty sure electrics/light can't operate fast enough for that kind of switching frequency.

At least not on Silicone, it isn't that good a conductor.

5.6 GHz on air?  Are you saying OP that you got that with an i5 2600K?  How was this done and how long could you run it at 5.6 GHz for?  WTH?

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

5600K, the A8. And no it wasn't stable, merely an epeen run.

My i7 2600K record was 5.3GHz

@harrynowl

i will test the P4 and see if it works or not

I will pack the 2 or 3 CPUs once you give the green light

my desktop is more of a backup so not really needed at the moment

I might have gotten trolled, but they are able to hit 8GHz. and that is quite surprising considering how old they are, and how much heat they put out (I'd recommend LN2 for anything over 4GHz-to be safe with those monstrosities).

Prescott/Cedar Mills 31 stage pipeline was there so it could clock high ;) this is how we got from 1ghz in 2001 (or 2000) to 3ghz+ in 2003

long pipeline = lots of time waste, cache misses = oops and HT was made as it was just slow.

That sounds a bit like AMDs choice with FX cpus, maybe that's why they get bagged for being slow and bottleneck creators.

What kinda settings are you planning to use for the gaming benchmarks? Would have loved to see 720p/low settings etc with a bunch of GPU headroom left

yep, amd did exactly what intel did. chased clock speed and not architectural improvements.

I might be able to do some testing with my P4 630 and Core 2 Duo E8500 @ stock and overclocked with battlefield 4 and crysis 3, I could even use my Xeon, but a 160MHz OC is the most my mobo can handle without overheating.

1080p/highest settings, we both know the end result already.

Man they are idiots, they should have know the problems they would have, especially after the CPUs that replaced the Pentium 4s were a lot better in pretty much every way.

Want me to test that? Because I can say right now that monitoring with MSI afterburner showed a 49-51% bottleneck with a core 2 duo at 4GHz and Crysis 3 as the game.
