Does V-sync save power? :s

I'm planning to get a R9 280, but the power consumption is so brutal. I think it's unnecessary for R9 280 to operate at 100% for an online game like Dota 2. (Because even 260x could push the FPS over 120)

 

As V-sync limits the FPS to 60, so will it saves the GPU workload and power?

 

P.S. Nvidia v-sync and AMD v-sync, are they same? which one is better? or save more power?

vsync might save power if you get more fps than your refresh rate and vsync is universal for amd and nvidia.

V-sync like any fps limiter can help the graphic card work less hard when it needs to and save power.

V-sync will save power as the GPU is only pushing out frames to sync up with the monitors refresh. Its not an FPS limiter per say, as V-sync is not actually trying to push out a set number of frames per second.

 

An FPS limiter like RTSS just limits how many frames are sent to the monitor per second, but the GPU is still pushing as many as it can. It will not save power.

 

If you are recording with something like fraps or dxtory, than they can lock framerates rendered by the GPU itself, and save power.

adaptive vsync is different than vsync it wont be power efficient as regular vsync.

adaptive vsync is different than vsync it wont be power efficient as regular vsync.

Adaptive vsync is simply regular vsync that can switch itself off when it goes below the refresh rate. G-sync would limit fps to max refresh rate so I guess it could save power.

Even though it's a re-brand HD7950, but it comes with 250W TDP. That's why I want to know if there is a way to limit the power consumption. Electricity rate in Australia is pretty expensive.
