Slow Internet Connection

Good day!

 

I'm from the Philippines and my internet connection is very slow. I have a Sun Post Paid Broadband 3G Pocket Wifi which is supposed to have an "UNLIMITED" load on internet connection. When I still had my old PC a couple of months ago, the connection was fast. I could download at 30 kbps - 40 kbps (peak hours) to 200 kbps - 700 kbps (off-peak hours). But when bought a new rig just this month and started downloading, all I'm getting is 0.1 kbps - 3 kbps (peak hours) to 0.1 kbps - 30 kbps (off-peak hours). This is slowing many things for me and my family. My wife couldn't do her business transactions online anymore. My daughter couldn't go to wikipedia without waiting for almost 3 hours before she could get into the site. I couldn't watch video tutorials anywhere on the internet anymore. I even had to wait an hour before I could log in here. None of us even do gaming on our internet connection just so that we could do our desired tasks on the internet everyday. Maybe someone here or anyone from the Philippines could give me a step by step instruction on how to speed up my internet connection. Please help. I don't want to think I'm wasting our money now paying for this crappy connection because we still had a good connection a couple of months ago. And honestly, this is the cheapest we could afford on a monthly basis compared to Globe and Smart.

This is the worst bad internet speed story iv'e ever heard in my entire life. even at 700 kbps it's very slow. Ugh
There's no way to increase speed, you need a better internet provider.

Aww.. reading this makes me sad . My internet is crappy too, I get max 4.5 mbps  and an average of around 3. But the ping is the worst! I going to try to get my parents to upgrade the internet connection and mabye move the router into my room.

Dude, your connection speed is a dream for us. How I wish we had that speed with ours.

If you want a faster internet connection, you should try:

1) Securing it with a password (so no one else can access your internet). You probably already have a password setup for your WiFi.

2) Moving your router. Moving your router into the center of the house can help make it easier for your computer to connect to it without interference.

3) Freeing up some storage (which will speed up your PC which will in turn make it faster to use).

4) Closing down any applications that may be using your Internet Connection. If you look in your notifications tray, you may notice that applications such as Skype seem to be open down their, try closing them by right clicking on them and clicking 'Close'.

5) You should also clear your history on your browser, this will improve the performance of your browser.

6) Get a power line adapter.

7) Reset your modem by turning it off and waiting 30 seconds to then turn it on again.

8) Run virus scans at least once a week. Viruses can dramatically affect performance.

9) Run malware or adware scans on a regular basis.

10) Remove excess toolbars. This will improve the performance of your browser.

11) Try switching browsers. I recommend Google Chrome.

12) Change your WiFi channel. It may be that many people are using the same WiFi channel and that is causing interference. Check your WiFi Instructions Manual on how to do this.

13) Update your routers firmware by going to the manufacturer's website and searching for any firmware updates. Their should be instructions on how to do this on the manufacturer's website.

14) Try to use Ethernet (wired) connections where possible. This eliminates the problem of interference.

15) Switch broadband provider. Broadband Choices can help you compare the different packages.

Looks like we have the same problem. But at least you got your parents covering your internet connection. As for us, we could barely fit the monthly cost of our connection in our tight budget. That's why we couldn't upgrade to a better internet provider. And ours is supposedly the cheapest when it comes to "UNLIMITED" connection among the three most popular here in the Philippines. I guess I should've asked for a "FASTER" one.  :unsure:

mabye track how much internet you use in a month, if you dont do any heavy streaming or downloading you might not even need an "UNLIMITED" plan and use the money you save for a faster or one with a better connection.
