All they'd really need to do is lock it to 4 threads, since even core 2 duos have a higher IPC at the same frequencies as AMD CPUs.

8350 is good enough to last me until amd come out with thier new line up or intels new line-up during that time frame..im actually waiting on more ddr4 based cpus/motherboards to come out before i upgrade. i was thinking about upgrading to 4790k but it may be wiser to rock out the 8350 for now because its more than i even need right now and with 2 280x's in sure im good for a year or two.

 

we know one thing for sure, the fx 8350 is way better than what the xbox one and ps4 have, so to say its not good for gaming is like saying a ps4 is not good for gaming.

I found out this morning that an FX 8350 is actually designed in a similar way to the old Pentium 4s.

 

Prescott/Cedar Mills 31 stage pipeline was there so it could clock high this is how we got from 1ghz in 2001 (or 2000) to 3ghz+ in 2003

 

long pipeline = lots of time waste, cache misses = oops and HT was made as it was just slow.

 

That translates into 'chasing clock speeds, not architectural improvements'.

would like to note that i have the FX8320 and the R9 270x, my CPU bottlenecks with high performance games like PlanetSide2. i cannot say what it will do for other games because PlanetSide is the only game i play where i notice a performance drop. i dont play many other high requirement games.

Some guys must try in practice more CPUs...SO I know exactly how is reality against some theory. FX Vishera is really better than old Phenoms II (including good old Thubans).Many bads are because someone say Intel, Intel and every man going to Intel. I dont say Intel is not better today, but demagogy is main point of these words.... 

I have 4 complete desktop PCs and  many others combination I can switch at benchtable for fun . Really, if you have example 2600K or 3770k or FX-8350, dont see much differents. Nothinkg in practice using (subjectively without stopwatch).

Phenom beats FX in most cases at a lower clock speed where IPC is needed.
