28 is more than enough for two GPU's, the 5820K can even do 3 pretty easy.

Hi,

 

I'm buying a x99 motherboard.   I'm looking at the Intel I7 5820K but it only 28 PCI lanes.   Is this enough for the video cards and maybe a wireless pcie card?   Thanks.

Unless you plan on going tripple SLI, it's good enough!

I wouldent waste your money on x99 if that is the cpu you are going to go with. I would make a z97 system with a 4970k which will handle sli 980's just fine

I need a x99 for the extra memory.   I run multiple VMs for work and need more than 32 gigs of RAM.

Ah yes, in that case go x99. I was under the impression that this machine may have been mainly a gaming system

it will be good for 3 even, i think that linus tested crossfire with 4 cards with  only the 28 lanes and it ran fine.

 

just dont expect to run it with a raid card and a nic or somthing

Thanks for all the info. I'm not sure what else I would put in the other pcie slots besides a wireless card or a card for extra usbs. Gaming is a secondary use. I'm not even sure why I bought two GPUs .
