GPU upgrade r9 280

SiGaG
Go to solution Solved by chamath,

Your 280x is much more better than two 6870s.

- 280x has 3GB of memory, 2 x 6870 will give you 2GB memory in crossfire mode

- 6870s will produce more heat and consume more power

- All games are not very well optimized for dual GPU set up,

So I don't have any money so buying a 2nd GPU ISN'T an option. I have a sapphire r9 280 vapor x. I was offered a trade for two sapphire 6870s. Thoughts? I've asked several places and have been getting mixed answers. Some people say that the dual GPU's would be better. Some say otherwise. Thanks in advance for everyone's input and for keeping it friendly : )

Here are the specs of the system right now.

i7- 4790k :/

MSI z97 gaming 5

4g Corsair vengeance pro

Sapphire r9 280 vapor x

corsair CX750m

Dual pny SSD (raid 0)

H100i

Antec p280

280 is 3GB vs having 2 cards with combained 2 GB. youd be getting less performance in MOST games as crossfire/sli isnt very optimized yet. Save your money and buy another 280 or a 270 if u really need more performance, which idk what games ur playing but glad i dont own them as i play everything in ultra on my 280

I once had a computer with Dual xeon 5620's. A cpu that you can buy for 60$ online. This was what I purchased as an upgrade from my xeons expecting it to be better since people basically worship this cpu. Terrible decision.
