DVI slot confussion

Hello,

 

I got an monitor with a DVI slot bud i am confussed about it, since it looks different than the slot on my pc. The one on my pc has a cross with 4 pins and the one on my monitor hasnt it just has a bar . is there a different name for these kinda DVI slots ? and can i use it for video signal with the right cables.

There is DVI-I and DVI-D.

DVI-I have analog pins so you can use it whit VGA adapter.

So do not worry it will work.

Just plug it in.

You can just use a regular DVI-D (dual link) cable with only the bar, the cross is for analog signals

The port with only the bar is DVI-D and the slot with the line and four pins are DVI-I. There are also dual link and single like for both types of DVI.

It's actually either DVI-I or DVI-A with the four extra pins.

one is DVI the other is DVI-D, i THINK one does audio as well but they both definitely do video and are interchangeable

Well it actually does, if he was to get a DVI-I cable he wouldn't be able to plug it into the monitor.

Very few* DVI to DVI cables will have the four pins.  It is doubtful unless you purposely look for one.

As i said, DVI-I cables do have (and are supposed to have) the four pins, DVI-D don't.

And yes, most cables are indeed DVI-D (dual link).
