Alternative to uTorrent

LarsReviews

No! I am not pirating, I am just downloading Linux distros.

On uTorrent, I get a ton of warnings from Malwarebytes because of the Ads. Is there a better alternative?

qBittorrent is the free open source alternative to uTorrent.

I like Transmission. It's also on Linux.

I prefer qBittorrent over Transmission on Linux as well. Reason for that is Transmission has very limited functionality.

I use Bitcomet.  Thinking of trying Tribler though.  Anonymity, no central servers, available on Win, OSX and Ubuntu.  Sounds good.

This could very well be the future because without a central server they'll have a darn hard time taking that down.

Can you expand a bit on Transmission's limited functionality? What does qBitTorrent do that Transmission doesn't?

Vuze is quite nice, but be aware that thing is basically adware if you just blindly install the thing. Preferably I like qbittorrent better, but I'm too fond of using Vuze.

For starts you cannot choose which files you want to download and which you don't with Transmission. It's been feature requested for years now while being rejected by the creator. On top of that much you cannot regulate individual download and upload speeds per torrent among other small quirks that make it a deal breaker for me. I don't want to download 50 GB of data just for a 250 MB file that I want from the torrent. Besides it's easy to install qBittorrent on Ubuntu and set it up to use as default for magnet links.

My version of Transmission (2.84) allow doing all of that.

The one that ships with 14.04.1 LTS doesn't (2.82). There's more features it's lacking other than them few but I wanted to point out just a few for starts. There's plenty of additional features including automated exit and system shutdown on torrent completion that I use in qBittorrent.

Not a big fan of its usability and lacking interface as well. Here's a side by side comparison.

*snip*

Yeah, I forgot the version of transmission in 14.04 is truly horrible and an enormous pain in the ass to set up with a decent interface. The one in 12.04 was great. I'm currently using Redmond's crap as my OS though since I built a gaming PC.

I've been using Deluge for the better part of a year now.  A lot of people have compared its' UI to uTorrent 2.2.1, back before uTorrent became the steaming pile of shit it is today.
