CPU spikes when cursor/mouse moves

Go to solution Solved by Pemoos,

Can you explain how you figured that out in more details please?

Well, I went into resource monitor, and saws that whenever i moved my mouse, my rtwlan (internet driver) would start to use more cpu then when my mouse was stagnant. So, I tried re-installing the driver and it worked.

I've written this before, but not much help, it ended up worsening the problem.

I've had this problem for about 6 days now. It all started when I downloaded Hamachi (For some reason on Softonic, dumb dumb dumb)

Then chrome started crashing and whenever I moved my mouse, games would lag.

So, then I checked my CPU percentage with task manager and whenever my mouse moved the CPU would spike from 1-3% to 30-50%.

This CPU spike causes games and drawing programs and such to lag.

I think you can see how this makes them unplayable. Even when I use my tablet, it spikes the cpu, so it's not the mouse. The only way i can make things not lag is by running them as administrator, but I consider this avoiding the problem.

What i've done that hasn't worked:

switched mouses

set cpu usage to high performance

restarted

updated drivers

taken out my graphics card

switched usb ports

virus scans which have found little infected cookies, but that's it

and i've heard formatting the hard drive never worked, but i don't want to try myself with no good outcome

My specs:

Processor: AMD A6-3500 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 2.10 GHz

RAM: 4.00 GB

OS: WIndows 7 32-bit

Graphics Card: AMD HD 7450

3 cores and all

please help this problem, as you can infer, is very annoying

It might be mouse software that's giving the mouse input too much CPU priority.

so i would fix this by re-installing the mouse?

reinstall windows?

that would be my last resort,

thanks for answering

No, try uninstalling the mouse software and see what happens. Keep in mind that it's usually only for changing settings and doesn't typically improve the mouse's performance when it is installed.

Try going into safe mode, see if that fixes the issue.

Smash F8 upon boot up, and select Safe Mode.

Yes, I forgot to include that, safe mode practically fixes the issue.

I mean when I move my mouse it goes from 0% to 3% but i've heard that's about average

It's normal for CPU usage to increase as you move your mouse, at least from what I've seen.

is it normal to move more than +30% everytime i move the mouse?

because before this issue started it was fine, no games lagged, the mouse didn't cause cpu spikes

sorry for all these questions, it's just hard to figure this out

Seems like a case of malware.

Try running Malwarebytes.

Cant you throttle the usage in the processes in task manager.

Could be malware, or a driver issue.

Try running the following:

Hitman Pro, TDSS Killer, Emsisoft Anti Malware, and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

A quick scan should be sufficient. (Hitman Pro and TDSS Are instant, so no point in those)

^ do this and you may also want to uninstall Hamachi as well.

You could also try a system restore to an earlier date

Windows does not need a mouse driver for normal mouse operations. Did you reboot the computer after uninstalling the mouse driver?

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.

Yes, but that still leaves the mouse problem.

Ok, I ran a couple scans and all the malware has been deleted, but my mouse still causes big spikes.

You could also try a system restore to an earlier date

All the system restore dates are after this happened, sadly

This is normal. To everyone here, even those with i5s and i7s- open Windows Task manager and go to the performance tab. Leave your mouse alone for a few minites and let the CPU usage hit a consistent. Then start moving it rapidly. What do you see? To me, my CPU usage hit 11%, and this happens with both my laptop and desktop. This is normal.

I don't think 0 to 30-70 is normal though

RESOLVED, turned out my Wireless card driver was hooked with my mouse. So when my mouse moved, the cpu spikes. To fix this you just reinstall the driver.

Google chrome part isn't fixed, but that could be a multitude of problems

Take this step by step until the problem is fixed

1. turn Windows into safe mode

2. Download CCleaner from a safe website and run it

3. Run an AntiVirus scan (Microsoft secretury essentials, AVG FREE, or Kaspersky)

4.Defrag your system

5. IF ALL ELSE FAILS REINSTALL WINDOWS

It's what I was thinking before. Mine hits ~36% cpu with google chrome open. Seems perfectly fine to me as long as I don't see a significant decrease in performance.
