Is there a difference between hub and a switch

I need a hub but there is no such name in the store im looking at but there is are switches and i am wonering are they the same?

I didn't know what to put here...

no

 

hub sends packages to all connected devices

switch(switching hub) sends packages to the destination device

 

edit: a switch most likely would be fine for you.

They are not the same. Switches are better though.

i just need more ports because my router ran out of room

if you mean something like usb hubs, the proper term for networking is a switch.

network hubs have a different meaning

Ethernet hubs are a thing of the past. Just get a switch (which is just a better, smarter version of a hub).

 

Not to be confused with a "smart switch" though... these are... well even smarter, but not necessary for most home users.
