You say programs , did you use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller ) to get rid of any remaining gpu drivers ?

obiously you are doing something wrong a 970 is more powerful than a 290x it seems like a driver issue

Exactly my thoughts :D

gonna look into that right now. 2 secs

No worries dude :)

Also what benchmark are you using , if i have it i will run it on my 8350/gtx970 PC and see what i get for reference :)

You should be getting around 8800 score with FX 8320, or 11000 with an i5 or an i7.

Make sure the card is working at the highest clock speeds. But it's probably a driver issue.

Okay i have just seen your problem :

post-15940-0-75355800-1416618756.png

Look again at this photo you uploaded , The Score you got with the 970 is on the Fire Strike EXTREME benchmark , the 280x benchmark you are looking at is the normal Firestrike benchmark

the 970 is actually working fine :)

Yes, you want to completely wipe your system of any AMD GPU drivers to make sure that you get the best performance possible.

Have you compared your ASUS GTX 970 score to similar GPUs?

EDIT: It appears the issue has been identified.
