Can you put the cooler on the CPU (with it in the socket) and just give it a slight push and then take it back off? Does it leave a "print"?

the layer of thermal compound on the cpu seems like a very thick layer with some air bubbles.....though thats just how it looks to me,could just be the angle off the camera.

Yes the top part..the paste should have left a different pastern on the of CPU..

Wonder if the CPU has been strained for a while(heat wise).

right now? no... i just tried and i think the thermal compound is all dry now...

Wonder if it has done a thermal shut down..?..should not have the paste dry like that under a CPU cooler...I have 486 CPU's with wet paste still on them..

my system was working perfectly normal prior to today and my idle temps were ~30-35. is that normal?

also is it okay if dust gets into the CPU socket because if im leaving it out for a couple days it will collect a little bit of dust wont it?

I just use a paper towel personally. But you'll want to use something else. Paper towel fibers start to come off and float around and land on the board. And dry thermal compound is hard to get off.

I would keep dust outta there. Generally, dust around computers is not ideal.

no no if it is dry use the Arctic Silver cleaner. It's a two stage cleaner and its around 4 dollars. Also, use a good thermal compound like mx4 or shin estu

Most pharmacies will carry 99% isopropyl alcohol..and..take the MB out and lay it socket side down...with a news paper over top...
