RAM - How much do you need?

This was a great video and write-up. Seriously awesome to see you guys doing these kinds of benchmarks. Even though I'm not into video rendering and that kind of stuff and have no need for that kind of setup it is really interesting to see. My friend was just telling me how great it would be to see how RAM has an effect on video game development. He mentioned to me that a lot of the time he would have multiple programs all running at the same time, Unreal Engine 4, photoshop, and ndo and ddo all at the same time. He says that he is constantly at 95% RAM usage when working on that stuff.

Stop with the overkill non-build guide videos.

Testing with ECC is even more ridiculous..

128gb only comes in ECC, they needed it to be able to test all possible situations. This is hardly overkill anyway.

Desktop -  i5 4670k, GTX 770, Maximums VI Hero, 2X Kingston Hyper X 3k in raid zero.

Laptop - Lenovo X230 Intel 535 480GB, 16GB Gskill memory, Classic Keyboard Mod, Triple USB 3.0 Express Card.

i have a friend at church who has the ASUS Z10PA-D8 mother board.

he's got the max ram in there.

i fucking hate him.

If I can't find an anime on the web I torrent "obtain" it lol.

Usually I can find it on netflix or some other streaming site.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

I've used ~300 gigs scratch before for rendering. Would have loved that much ram.

muh specs 

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. 

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. 

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

havent found a single series not on there yet. 

im usually late to a certian anime anyway, though, but thats because i dont like waiting for next monday to get episode 2. i binge watch. 

also i prefer to just know what they're saying than needing to read and not see whats going on. 

 

i'll eventaully learn japanese and rach the 5 languages mark..... (well....... 3, two are just made up ones i kinda use to swear without judgment and one is a dead language no one uses anymore)

I don't usually watch dubbed.

right now SAO II and Log Horizon II are releasing new episodes every saturday. That's what I watch right now. I just finished Tokyo Ghoul, but it was so short and had a huge cliffhanger. Season II in January! The hype is real.

I have 16Gib, and it's enough. 8GiB would have been too little.

Granted though I run Chip design/synthesis/simulation tools, various VMs at once for OS programming and the occasional video/image rendering

You do know that 16 GiB isn't the same as 16 GB right?

I am aware. The correct term for RAM is GiB,  however windows shows it as GB.

 

It's the same with storage; a 500GB drive shows up  under windows as ~465GB, but this should actually be ~465GiB.
