The word is "understated." As a lover of NZXT and Fractal cases, flashy cases like the Corsair Carbide series irritate me. Why have a case that clashes with the colors of the room it might be in?

 

Whatever, everybody has their own view of what's attractive to the eye.

It's not "understated" it's "I don't care how this looks, its a plain box thats cheap, that'll work". They're "good enough" to function, that's it. It looks like you didn't even try to find a nice looking case. Might as well go get an OEM case of some kind.

Fractal cases are extremely functional.... If you want a good quiet case - Define Series. Want an "understated" case with lots of airflow? Arc series. Want an almost-refrigerator? A Node might do you well. They're made decently well and I don't get what you mean by "it's a box that does what it does-" Is a computer case supposed to do anything more than house components and look attractive to the owner?

That's the thing, it doesn't. When I see a build with that case all I think, from an aesthetics standpoint is "oh, he/she didn't even try". Thats what those cases look like to me.

I'd still argue that the Graphite series is just a unique looking box, while the Phantom series is flashy "Gamer" stuff. The Carbide spec is kinda old by now and personally I don't think they're that flashy compared to some of the stuff that comes out of Cooler Master etc.

he/she didn't try to me is something that has a top mounted PSU, no modularness inside, airflow restrictions everywhere and flashy LED's to "make up" for it, Some LED cases like the Graphite series are mostly OK by me, but it makes me feel like the LED's are just a cover up for many a poor internal layout.

 

Basically, the LED cases look to me like something a 12 year old Razer fanboy would like. The Fractal Design cases are more "I need function and I don't want my computer to stand out like a Christmas tree in August."

 

But you have your taste.
