Youtube 1440p and 4K on AMD Athlon II X4 640

Hello guys 

 

After seeing this video in 4k (

), i wondered if my old Athlon can do 4k.

 

Below is the results

 

So as you can see i have my Athlon II x4 overclocked from 3.00GHz to 3.50GHz running 1.45V

 

 

So how does 1080p videos play

 

 

As you can see 1080p is no problem for this CPU

 

now 1440p

 

 

As you can see, it puts some load into the CPU and the video played fine with only minor stuttering

 

now for some serious stuff, lets try 4K 

 

 

As you can see 4K maxxed out all four cores and even thou they wasn't all at 100% i did have major stuttering and only getting a few seconds of smooth playback at a time

 

So conclusion

 

All in all the AMD Athlon ii x4 640 is a good choice for HD video playback, yes it can only do up to 1440p but the fact that this can still do HD+ considering its age is surprising

 

Now the next question is what about 4K Gaming, well that's for another post

Youtube is too short a space of time for more cores to benefit over faster cores.
