When you don't call yourself a `techie` because the word for a `non-techie` is unknown. Why would you need words for both day and night, when you only know of day? Only then do you form true self-awareness.

because you cannot be self aware if you can't define what is yourself and beyond yourself.

when you have a box full of cables...

when you have more tech stuff than you actually use...

when you have a PC with no crapware/malware...

when you name your devices with pet names... (Like how I named my rig Mutsuki)

when you know how to use Linux to its fullest...

when you're updated with hardware and software stuff...

when you'd take anything tech, no matter how crappy or old, if it was given to you for free...

when you get pissed if you don't have full control over a machine...

when you get pissed if people don't get the best value in tech for their money...

when you can give a rough diagnosis of something at first glance...

when you can name the model of a device at a glance...

my biggest pain in life is being absolutly useless at linux, i wish i could work on it but i have no time.....

just force yourself to use it. it only takes about 6 months to be truly proficient. After enough googling you start to remember things.

You know you're a techie when. . .

you bring your own mechanical keyboard when you help a friend overclock his PC

you wear a usb drive on your wrist with the latest Ubuntu release

I'd like to hear your stories. see if I share any of the experiences.

mod please don't rename my post to "experiences with 'techies'" again unless it is truly necessary. my original title suggests a format for the replies, which I believe adds to the thread.

i even tske my mechanical keyboard to my dads to use his laptop mechanicals keyboards are amazing

... when you try to cable managment everything. EVERYTHING. it's driving me crazy.

I like questing in RuneScape and think that Assassin's Creed 3 was a great game. I've got a Surface Book 2 15" yet I still proudly consider myself a PlayStation peasant. I have a Pixel 2 XL, and the camera on it is absolutely amazing. No regrets.

you know you're a techie when you make the thread "You know you're a techie when. . . "

you are determined to get bronze badges for both BOINC and Folding@Home

when your mother tells you to guess what's in a big box at christmas, you respond with a model number

you have a mural of every size consumer hard drive you can get your hands on. so far 5.25 inch "Bigfoot", 3.5 inch standard desktop, and 2.5 inch notebook drive.

you wrap your devices in vinyl to make them look cool

no matter how much money you have, you can always build a PC that will drive you broke.

When you repair laptops and desktops for free just because it's fun.

Develop software for free just because it's fun.

Bring your own keyboard to high school because the dell keyboards don't feel right.

Teachers ask you questions tech-related even when there is a school tech-helper closer to them.

When that same tech-helper asks you questions.

You ever think things and rip your whole laptop apart to check the wireless adapter, re-install drivers just to find out you accidentally pushed the airplane mode button.

Buy USB drives on sale just to add too your collection.

Visit futureshop and ask them how much it will cost for them to repair your laptop screen just for laughs because they tell you $300 then you purchase your new $50 screen and install it yourself.

When you start to call people users in real life.

Start to think logically out loud even when logic doesn't apply.

When your computer replaces friends.

When your mom gets mad at you for having boxes and boxes of computer parts just lying a round in the basement.
