Theoretically TN, due to the fact that TN panels have a 1 or 2ms response time versus IPS having a 5 or greater. However unless you play competitively you really won't notice so the added visual fidelity is better.

I prefer IPS screens.  IPS have better colours.

Which do you want? Your games to look better, or do you want them to feel smoother and faster? IPS looks better, TN has way higher refresh rates and response times.

Uhh, IPS has better colors but lower response time and hertz

TN has worse colors but can achieve 1ms and 144hz

Go for IPS unless you have the money 120 HZ TN monitor

and there is barely no difference between 1 and 5ms

Which one is better for gaming is your preference really, if you prefer high refresh rate with the draw back of lower color quality then TN is for you

If the immersion experience and visual, color quality is important to you then IPS is better (IPS has better color btw, incase you didn't figure it out already)

I would pick the BenQ Xl2420T or Z instead, the BenQ is supposed to have better colors, tho i havent tested the Asus, but i have 3 of the BenQ´s :P

It's TN. You'll have faster response times and higher FPS, but worse colors and viewing angles.

TN is usually seen as a "gaming panel" due to the higher refresh rates available ( UP-TO 144Hz) where IPS is usually seen as a Professional panel, these usually have a refresh rate at a max of 60Hz. Generally for gaming, a TN monitor is recommended due to the refresh rate for fast paced games such as CS:GO but suffers from horrible viewing angles and colour reproduction. If you can deal with only 60fps (Only, laughs at consoles) and slower refresh rates, IPS is the way to go as it solves the terrible viewing angles and the colour reproduction.

AFAIK they're the same panels. I have the ASUS one (VG248QE) and the colors are amazing for a TN panel. My friend's IPS panel wasn't noticeably better until you started looking for it on really dark images.

They're pretty darn good for a TN panel. Just make sure you go through the settings and tune them to your liking. I pulled up just a picture of R/G/B pure colors and tuned them until I was happy that none of them were washed out, then went from there. Default settings had bad blue/green colors, but strong reds.

edit: this one: http://forum.openframeworks.cc/uploads/default/3724/fed2dd810208c843.jpg I just went full screen and tuned my monitor until they all looked good.

I'd go for a TN panel as it's usually got around a 1-2 ms response time.

But TN panels are not as good for color (usually)

IPS has better color contrast and is better for professional color work - Graphic designing / video editing etc. (usually)

I'll take visuals (IPS) over a faster response time that I don't even notice anyways.

TN might be better for gaming, but IPS is perfectly acceptable IMO for gaming and is much better for everything else you will do on a computer.

IPS for color, I have found below 6MS I can't see different in response time on IPS verse TN and the colors are so much more vivid and beautiful to immerse yourself in the game.

We can build it, we have the technology!
