Google glass officially banned in theaters

SirBindy

This may only affect the USA, but still made me chuckle.

As part of our continued efforts to ensure movies are not recorded in theaters … we maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward using any recording device while movies are being shown," the two groups said in a joint statement. "As has been our long-standing policy, all phones must be silenced and other recording devices, including wearable devices, must be turned off and put away at show time. Individuals who fail or refuse to put the recording devices away may be asked to leave.

Because it matters....

Anyone whos going to watch a CAM isn't going to pay for the movie anyway.

Not to mention, bringing an actual video camera...or a phone isn't exactly difficult...

If someone can keep their head THAT still recording a movie, I would pay for it just for their skill.

I'd be more interested in how they managed to get the battery to last long enough to record a full length movie ;)

Also. what if these are your prescription glasses?

Doesn't matter anyways.  You're not supposed to bring in your own refreshments either, but usually the 14 year olds behind the counter either don't care or aren't confident enough to actually stop anyone.  So if you want to wear your google glass, just walk in like you own the place and nobody will say a word.

Honestly I have zero problem with this. Yes, Cam's will probably always get recorded, one way or another. And yeah, most people who can stomach watching a Cam will probably not pay for the movie anyway, but that doesn't make it right or acceptable.

Piracy as a distribution problem, especially overseas in poorer nations, is understandable. But many many people from US, Canada, UK, Australia, and the EU in general will pirate and watch Cams too, when there is no socioeconomic reason for it.

Pirating because the movie either:

1. Isn't available/being distributed in your region, or

2. Is available, but at a ridiculously high price compared to the average national income

is understandable. I won't say it's OK, but it's understandable. That is a pricing and distribution problem that needs to be fixed.

Pirating a movie while living in any 1st world nation, while being a cheap fucker, or even those who are poor in those 1st world nations, is NOT okay. In this case, can't afford it? Too bad, live without it. I can't afford a Bugatti, so I live without one. If I can't afford a movie that I really want to see (even as a young kid), I'll damn well save up or find a way to make the money to afford it.

/rant

Anyway, not surprising at all that it was banned.

If you know you're going to the movies, it's your responsibility for bringing a backup pair of glasses or contacts. Everyone knows recording devices aren't allowed, so you couldn't claim "ignorance" (Well ya could, but that'd be a dick move).

Personally I find this absolutely fine. If you're one of the persons above arguing about prescription glasses, then I'd like to point out that I wear glasses daily and I wouldn't wear Google Glass 24/7. I would always have a backup pair. I have a backup pair to my backup pair just in case something happens. I am not "rich", but you can get glasses pretty cheap nowadays. And if you have the money for Google Glass to begin with, then you have the money to spend on a non-Glass pair of glasses.

They can't be...

Uh, yeah they can.

Conditions of entry to almost all cinemas: "no recording devices".

Google glass was banned from cinemas before it was even made.

“Snorting instant coffee is the best,” said Kayla Johns, 19, of Portland.

That's a frame for your glass, but they're not actually your glasses.

I feel like they are trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist, or they are at least blowing it out of proportion. I would feel like people putting a GoPro in their purse / coat pocket would be more of a concern than someone attempting to record an entire movie with Google glass. Looking it up online it also looks like the battery only lasts 30 minutes when recording video.

Guess what? That's not the theatres problem. Anyone who has a Google Glass knows you're not allowed to bring recording devices into a theatre. Even if you didn't know about the specific laws, you should be able to apply common sense.

Bring a pair of backup glasses. Simple. Done. How can you say this isn't their own fault? Anyone who can afford Google Glass, can damn well afford a backup pair of glasses. This is 100% a non-issue.

100% Agreed

Google glass was banned from cinemas before it was even made.

Yup. I can't believe anyone would even try to argue otherwise?
