how long will 1080p live on?

Swndlr

1080p will live far to long, just like 720p has.....

well thats in terms of consumers and their tv's. i mean gamers and all that. surely i can imagine 1440p becoming mainstream before 4k, no?

i feel like 4k will be the next standard before 1440p just because of the marketing push going on with it.

It's 1080. It's like the General standard now. If you could run a higher resolution at a good fps 60 stable. Go for it.I have 1080 / 144 but would trade down fps for resolution considering the current basis of game types I play .

I don't think so. I think 1440p will just be skipped over.

Yea, it'll be a long time (probably 2-3 years) before people start mass-upgrading their 1080p monitors. By the time that happens, 4k will probably be almost if not just as cheap as high end 1080p monitors/1440p.

until 1440 gets a hell of a lot cheaper. like under 200 dollar cheap.

You can get 27" Korean 1440p monitors for $350 (perfect pixel) with IPS/PLS panels with minimal backlight bleed so when you consider what your getting for the price it's a great deal.

Ha! I never had 1080p, went from 1280x1024 to 1600x1200 then 2560x1440. Buy good monitors and you can skip the crap resolutions. ;)

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

A decent 4k monitor is only a couple hundred more than a 1440p one. When youre already spending 500$+ for 1440p the extra couple hundred isnt hard to justify

I think 1440P will be the next 720P with 4K being the next standard. I think all the 4K TV's will be used as computer monitors or regular TV's. For computer gaming, 1440P will be the next standard for gamers who do not have SLI or crossfire. I think 1080P will be around for quite a long time as a baseline standard.

Personally I game at 60-144 FPS whenever possible. In that regard it is totally unrealistic to move up from 1080p at the moment. I'd need a massive SLI/CF setup and a really expensive monitor.

1080p will live on as long as there are filthy casual zombie hordes out there who think that resolution is just a number.

so say once our parents generation dies off or becomes so senile, socially insolvent and incapacitated that they think that number is a just resolution.

If anything 4k will replace 1080p long before 1440p.

I think about 2 years for when 1440p will be more accessible. I don't think we'll jump straight to 4k, because that still requires some expensive hardware and i don't think 2 years will be enough to change that. I myself am happy with 1080p and i don't impatiently wait for whatever comes next, as long as consoles won't go ahead (which will never happen).

I think 4k will be the next big thing, 1440p is pretty much being bypassed with 4k being the rave thing to strive for

We have 4k movies , 4k cameras, 4k monitors, 4k tvs, 4k projectors, and GPUs capable of gaming at 4k, it is getting cheaper and cheaper all the time

I think 1080p will stick around for years, I mean there are devies that still run at like 1366x768 even today

my bet is that 1080p will stay in existance as long VGA still stays mainstream for most pc companies(hp, dell, you name them) since it is more then enough for home/office pc's.

and in my opinion 1080p is also the sweetspot for resolutions when we talk about phones, wich hopefully companies also notice.

May the light have your back and your ISO low.

Hey, I still haven't adopted 1080p.

I do have a 1080p TV, but I play on a 1280x1024 monitor...

aaahhh that horrible 5:4 aspect ratio...

aaahhh that horrible 5:4 aspect ratio...

At least 720p videos and games look decent on it: the width is exactly 1280 pixels of the 1280x720 resolution, and in windowed mode / with black bars the vertical 720 pixels aren't stretched at any point.

I may should invest in a 1080p monitor (16:9 / 16:10 aspect ratio), granted the second-hand ones go under the 50€ mark...

Never trust my advice. Only take any and all advice from me with a grain of salt. Just a heads up.

When HP stops making crappy laptops, the resolution on their pavilion laptops are 1366 by 768.

HP aren't the only ones. Dell still use 1366x768 panels in a lot of their laptops. My Dell Latitude being an example. Thankfully Lenovo and some other companies generally have 1080p as their standard.

Until manufacturers stop producing them, which is when people stop buying them.

But how can people stop buying them when manufacturers keep making them and they keep breaking so people keep buying?
