New Job, New Build!

DarrenP

Hello everyone!

I recently acquired a new job, and as such i believe it's time to get myself a new desktop. By get i mean buy the parts and build myself of course.

I'm setting a budget of $2500 Canadian dollars. Here are the parts i already have:

Corsair Obsidian 900D

Corsair H100I

4 Corsair SP120 High Performance*

1 x 256GB Samsung 840 Pro*

1x2TB WD RED 7200RPM Drive*

1x2TB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM Drive*

I plan to use the parts with an asterisk again. If i have to I will use the non stared parts again. I'm looking to use my new desktop for mostly gaming, but also programming. I want one 2560x1440/1600 monitor included in the budget. I also require a Gigabyte Motherboard with onboard Wi-Fi. I would also prefer 16GB of RAM. So if you guys don't mind giving me ideas. That'd be great. Thanks!

EDIT: I also don't require an OS.

EDIT: I also have an HX1050 - 1050W 80+Gold Corsair PSU I plan to use.

For gaming you do not need 16gb of ram, 8gb is enough.

I'd suggest the i5 4690K and something along the lines of the msi z97 g55 sli, then a GTX 980 or two...

I may not need 16GB. I want 16GB. I've used 8GB before, and 16GB is required for me. I also do not want an I5. Hyper-Threading is a must. In my original post i said i wanted a Gigabyte board, not a crappy budget MSI Board. :)

The MSI Z97-G55 SLI is a great board, sure it may not be as good as some other boards out there, but it still is a fantastic board.

Perhaps an i7 4790K for the CPU?

I was thinking either the 4790K of 5820K. I don't think i'm going to go with a 5820K as it would throw my budget up some.

Exactly my thinking. As soon as I went from 8GB to 16GB. I can't go back. I just have way to many things constantly open and going all the time.

You could get an i7 4790k with a Gigabyte ga-z97x-ud5h-bk, and swap out the 300$ for something cheaper that will look better with a 240mm aio. You could even go with a phanteks enthoo pro, and get a thermaltake water 3.0 ultimate.

I meant 300$ case, but didn't type case.

I'll be using Chrome, TS3, Photoshop, Priemere, Games, Visual Basic, Eclipse, Atom, HexChat, Word, FileZilla, and for sure Virtual Box, all will likely be open at the same time... OH and Itunes.

I don't like the Enthoo, or really any of their cases. If i'm going to go 3x120, it will be an H320 by Swiftech though.

You know Premiere would use as much cores as you throw at it so if you want your rendering to get a nice boost X99, if not 4790K.

The cooler was a suggestion, but there really is no reason to get a 900d. It isn't good for watercooling(even though it has the room is lacks good airflow to parts of it), yet that isn't an issue with a 240mm aio. You could honestly save money by dropping that, and getting something more worth the money.

Have you though about having two monitors ? One for gaming and one for rendering and color reproduction needs ? Having a good 1440p IPS monitor with descent input lag for gaming is kind of hard.

I dont really like the hardwares you have chosen.

900D is massive and it is purely for huge custom water cooling.Dont waste money on that. You can go for 780T or any other case.

I wouldnt buy any corsair fans.tbh, noctua fans are the best fans.If you dont care about the noise then get noctua 3000 industrial fans. They are superbly fast and great and costs around 35$ each.

Change your SSD to crucial mx100 256GB.

Change your AIO cooler to nzxt Kraken X61.

For monitor,I would recommend Asus Swift PG278Q,but its costly. But you can manage that in your budget in no problem. Its 1440P,G sync,144HZ and 1ms response time.

Get i7 4790k and then overlock it.Even if you dont overlock, its still a beast with its stock clock. So yeah.

Get 2x 970.

Why choose gigabyte? Get MSI Gaming 9 AC.I think it has built it has built in wifi.

I dont know which RAM you like in aestheics, but lemme give you a suggestion.Dont ever go for dominator platinum unless you are rich and get the best bang for your buck.Gskill trident or corsair vengeance pro is that way to go and costs around 180 to 190$.

And if you need any help just qoute my reply or PM me.

Happy buildings!
