Your best tips to make builds quiet?

withtheeye

What are some of your best tips you have found that make builds quiet?

What worked, and what didn't work?

(Assume you are using a generic case to begin with, a Corsair 250D, for example. Not a "silent case")

TIA!

What worked:

Buy 2 200mm fans and 2 enermax silence vegas fans ==> SUPER QUIET SYSTEM

What didn't work:

Buy corsair fans = CONSIDERABLY louder when on idle compared to the above PC on load

Use silence adapters and/or buy a fan controller?

Set a fan curve for both CPU and GPU fans

Rubber isolator stuff, fan controller stock Corsair fans (two 120mm, really quiet; two 140mm, high rpm).

Swapped out original blower for PSU in my Dell for one out of a newer one.

Never turn it on?

Or some good quiet fans + a fan controller
I guess a fractal case is good too. My friends Arc midi is damn near silent with the stock fans

Do fan filters have much effect on noise? (Just comparing a build with them on and off)

A cooler that's way to big for your gpu, my 660 has the same cooler a 680 has. Don't over clock so you can keep heat down
