Microsoft’s Windows 10 has permission to watch your every move

THey're seeing what the user experience is during beta in order to improve their product?! WHAAAAATT?!

Yes, because them obtaining everything I type on my keyboard, including passwords, bank account and what not, will totally help improve the product, right?

Everything else is fine for a beta, the keylogger part, isn't. Sorry if I don't trust them to not be hacked and everything leaking onto the internet.

You're not supposed to be doing private banking or any other sensitive stuff on a technical preview designed to be used for testing purposes.

They clearly state in big text "Join us as we build Windows 10" and "If you're a PC expert or an IT pro, come on a journey with us and be part of creating the best Windows yet."

Yes, part of making Windows 10 better includes doing testing that involves heavy data collection so you can analyze it to make sense out of what you need to do to improve the product. If you're not OK with that then don't be part of the testing.

Fair enough, but how would it be testing if you didn't use it the same way you normally would?

If all they wanted is a bunch of monkey looking through the new features, they could've done that internally. Many people test it as their daily driver, installing on it on their primary machine and using that. Why would you switch computer everytime you need to check your bank account or login to facebook or something? Not many people would do that and testing it through a Virtual Machine doesn't give the best result for Microsoft either, as it's using emulated hardware and not your actual hardware so if you don't have any issue in the VM, you might have some if it was installed directly on the PC. Testing is more than just screwing around on it to see the new features and be done with it, it's to actually use the thing as you would use it.

There is NO reason for a Keylogger to exist in a Public test build. It will not provide any useful information other than what you are writting. Useful information includes what software or feature you use and how often you use it. Not how often you clicked the letter A, or any other keys on your keyboard. If it was just to record things like keyboard shortcut, to see how many people actually used that, it would be acceptable, but a full fledged keylogger? No.

But hey, that's just my opinion, if you feel differently, you have the right to.

I mean didn't anyone read the agreement?

"Yes, I've read and agree to the term of services" is the biggest lie on the internet, didn't you know? Unless you're a lawyer, you wouldn't understand half of it, not to mention they make it so long that most people would give up reading or speed read through it, skipping a lot of information.

Is anyone seriously using W10 preview as their daily driver?

One isn't forced t use it, it is one's own prerogative.

has one been for elocution lessons?

By definition, Alpha testing is internal, Beta testing is external (regular users, developers, etc). This is a beta. Regardless of how "finished" a product is. A product isn't finished upon launch either.

by todays standards alpha is what you release on steam to make some money and beta is the new name for demo/were to tight to hire testers

i'm not a lawyer and i understand that perfectly, yes legal documents are long and boring to read but its a requirement, because they have to be as detailed as possible to not have loop hole where someone could take advantage of, and if you don't agree simply don't use the service there's always alternatives out there

Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, and every other version of Windows - and OSX - already do this.

Microsoft doesn't respect you, your privacy, or your human rights. The sooner people stop using it and switch to something like Linux, the better.

The majority of OSX is open source so you can check if Apple does that, and I'm assuming they don't otherwise it would have been expose already and I'm sure companies would be furious if Microsoft tracked any sort of data inside the os on retail release since they would effectively be stealing corporate data, that a good enough reason for them to be dead already

If your going to come up whit conspiracy theories at least make them have some sort of sense, also Linux still has a long way to go to overtake Windows

Being open source and using open source code aren't the same thing.

No because there proof of it, my point was is that there's no proof of Ms or apple placing Keyloggers inside their os's

Unless you know any

Weren't Windows 7 and 8 doing the same thing during their beta?

I mean... why would they release a beta if it's not to gather usage reports; I certainly wouldn't trust manual user feedback :P  (which probably 1% will fill)

Always load your OS betas on a VM folks and don't use it for work. I would be surprised if a key-logger was on all the time though.

Probably.

Keep in mind they think you're 18 if you're in the beta so it's not like they're going to try and bust you for porn

Isn't the purpose of a pre-release (any pre-release) to gather this kind of information to fix bugs/compatibility issues and such? this isn't news
