Crossfire vs single nvidia card

Well I'm planning my build to begin around Xmas time, I really can't decide to go for a Asus gtx970 or 2 amd cards ie 2 r9 280x.... Thing is once the build is done won't have much spare cash to change anything.......

Asrock X670E PG Lightning 

32GB G.Skill 6000mhz DDR5

1TB Samsung 990 Pro

Its not really any worse than SLI, but a single more powerful card is better than multiple card configs.

If you're using a "bazillion" displays (so more than 4) then your cards aren't going to be working together....soooo not SLI/XFIRE.

The 2 r9 280x in crossfire would perform better.

But for future upgrade the single Gtx 970 would be better.

no it isn't, that's just green-side extremist propaganda. Its just as good as SLI these days. You will get more performance out of 2x280x than with a single 970. The question is if you're willing to settle fir that or if you want to possibly upgrade to dual 970s in the future. For now, dual 280Xs would be very powerful, but in the future you could have dual 970 which would be beastly. I'd personally go for the 970 now and upgrade later, unless you need the extra "oomph" right now. What resolution are you going to be playing at?

In that case your gaming at 1080p and a single 970 will be more than enough. Trust me, I game at 1080p with an R9 290 (similar to a 970 in terms of performance) and it is already overkill for that resolution.

doesn't make a difference for gaming, since the GPU will only be pushing one 1080p panel. You can't really game on two.

Get a single ASUS GTX 970 STRIX http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NJ9BJ8G. You will get better all around performance, less power consumption, produce less heat, and no micro-stutter issues from Xfire.

Awww yeah, fireblade... <3 I'm thinking of selling my monster 900 and getting a cbr600rr for next season, I don't want to let go of the old girl though... :(

 

And yeah, the 970 is definitely the better option for now. You can get a second one later, if you ever want to step up to 1440p or anything.

I dunno, I've never tried 1440p... but since its almost twice the amount of pixels as 1080p, I'd assume there is a pretty significant difference.

the 970 would be better in my opinion. with the new Maxwell architecture proving to be super power efficient and a great performer compared to Kepler it is a clear choice especially with most of AMD having a new lineup with old GPU's just re branded.
