What the actual fuck. Guy needs to calm down a bit. He's surely got some sort of connection or he's using a huge office array or something. One person does not need a petabyte of content surely.

 

 

Never mind calm down, I just need to update that post, I'm around 1.4PB now, no office array all home storage on regular consumer hardware,

worth mentioning I got a little discount on some of the drives through work and used my office 10Gbit pipe to fill most of them though.

 

As for need, none of us need these storage arrays but it's fun to say things like "I have a copy of any movie you can name."

Update: now with 30% more gen storage!

 

• removed 4 1.5TB drives and a 2TB drive
• added 6 3TB drives

 

Current drive count:

•   2x Seagate ST3000DM001
•   12x Toshiba DT01ACA300

 

Also, the list seems to have me as using 2012R2, should be 2008R2.

 

ssd isn't mounted properly yet, need to dig up another 5.25" adapter for it... sitting on top of the Cooler Master 4-in-3 for now.

Infact I do of the new rig, but not of the server itself (not overly spectacular anyway) - but will take some if I get the chance to shut it down at some point.

 

Will post the together when I have proper ones of both as well as my complete setup / desk.

Update for my rig, link to build log post here.

The server now has 4x 3TB Seagate NAS drives and a 1TB WD Blue drive (vs. 2x 3TB NAS drives and the 1TB Blue). The server is also now running mdadm and LVM in raid 6.

Software and Configuration:
I am running Freenas and running in RAID-Z2. Total drive space of 18 TB after the raid that leaves 10.6TB useable.

Usage:
Anime storage. Game ISO storage/steam backup. FTP. My main rig, and laptop also do automated backups to this machine. Roughly 4.5 TB used currently.
Backup:
No offsite backup as my upload speed is terrible. If my connection improves I will add offsite.

Additional info:
I do run a PLEX server off it when I need it. Freenas is already a RAM hungry little OS though. Normally 8GB is enough for it. When you fire up the PLEX service though it starts to slug a little. Need to add another 8GB.

My server is running windows home server 2011 and im currently not using raid.

right now I have a 3 tb external drive (server not full yet.still got ALLOT of movies to go)

Additional info:
the celeron has been a great processor.I just started messing with plex and while it can transcode 1-2 steams well enough it pegs the cpu so I may upgrade .

Software and Configuration:
This is my media centre PC running Windows 7 home.  I'm using FlexRAID for my array, pictures below.

Usage:
I ran out of both hard drive and physical space in my FreeNAS server so I added to my htpc instead.  I'm using it to store my blu-ray and DVD movies and TV series

Additional info:
The media centre is using an AMD A10 because I didn't want to deal with a video card but wanted to do some light gaming on the side.  The system automatically launches XBMC and draws 105W at full load from the wall.

It should or does as everyone's storage is in a different location and then who's to know if you have a JBOD in one room and the other across the globe?

Its all fair game, and 24 drive cases are not the max (see below, and see my profile gallery)

Heck we have defaulted for the 45/44 drive enclosure from SuperMicro, 24 in the front and 21/20 in at the rear, we only use it for a JBOD so no need for the mobo tray (bottom of right side image):

 

 

 

Then there's the beast! 90 Drives, two per drive tray:

 

  

 

So 90 x 8TB (using the latest 8TB drives) = 760 TB of storage, way way more than the 24 drive bay

just had a ST3000  die on me... it died instantly .

bought 2x 4TB RED as replacement. next month the other ST3000 will be replaced with a 4TB RED.

 

so I am up to 69TB for now
