I don't have any backups :D

Yes, I have had to reinstall Windows. Many times over the years.

My system has about 6months on it. I've had to install windows twice. Because first onto my HDD and then later on when I added a ssd to my system.

I have pictures and videos that I want to keep safe so that's mainly whats backed up, along with my gamnes and I have also backed up my ssd, just in case of a failure.

Also, I noticed you have a gtx 650ti boost. That's a great card! That's originally what I had until I upgraded to a gtx 760

My school's total 'dropbox storage' is one 2TB drive. That's for staff and students. We're all encouraged to have our own means of storage in saying that though :P

But my school has over 1000 poeple

my current server uses 21 drives.

Is that the norco or the supermicro?

Its from Ri-Vier , its a norco clone , but with better backplanes.

IT costs 332euro inc vat

Im also a bit scared with the amount of noise it will create , my current server is really silent.

Storage: 16TB (8TB usable) Raid 10

Case: Bitfenix Phenom M (white)

Motherboard: Supermicro X10SLL-F-O

CPU: Intel Pentium G3220

RAM: 8GB   2x 4GB Kingston KVR13E9-4I 1333MHz DDR3 ECC Unbuffered CL9

PSU: SeaSonic 350W OEM V3 80Plus Gold

I didn't want to have my HDD's mounted vertically because I've read from countless people saying that drives tend to die quicker. Whether that is true or not is another thing of course.

I wanted all my drives to be treated equally so the only way was to stack them.

When I was a kid about age 8-13 I played with meccano. I had a bit of lego and less of knex but my favorite thing to build with was meccano.

For a long time I didn't touch it but I got it out again about 5 years ago and I've used it as a solution to some problems with my tech stuff.

I've made a headphones stand, mounting devices for my surround sound speakers, and even a stand for a 120mm fan to sit on my desk.

And as you can see (in pic below) I've used it again to save my butt.

I made a very simple rack for my HDD's to bolt into without any vibration, and with good air space between them.

You see, that's what I like about home-made servers. Sure they may not all

be as pretty as some show builds, but the ingenuity that goes into them makes

for some very interesting builds indeed. Well done! thumb.gif

What I find sad in all this is that people have all this storage for home use and my school only has a 70gb network drive

1tb at home is not the same as 1tb in an enterprise environment.

Where I work we cost out about $1000 per 1tb.

Nope its all about the speeeeed. A 1tb WD RED just wont cut the mustard.

Especially with the DoA rates of those Red's!
