Added pics of inside. It looks messy but its actually not so bad. Like most rack cases I don't get much for cable management options.

I assume you're running bind as a local DNS cahce as well? :)

Yes although the main purpose has been to keep IPs organized.

Software and Configuration:

My server is running windows server 2012 and im using FlexRAID to make my array.

My main array consists of 14 2TB drives in RAID 6, so i in up with 21.8TB actual space on that array.

The remaining drives are used as iSCSI target's and one 2TB drive is for active torrents and usenet download's /uploads.

Usage:

I use the storage for movies and series, i have media players around the house that access it.

Its also for backing up my computers.

Backup:

The is arrays backed up to LiveDrive, this is a online cloud backup service. (i have 100/100 Mbps connection)

Additional info:

I'm using the AMD processor because it was a leftover from my previous server, i will upgrade it eventually because of its high power consumption.

Hardware
CASE: Bitfenix Shinobi
PSU: Corsair CX430M
MB: Asrock Z77 Extreme4
CPU: Intel Celeron G1610 lga1155
HS: Corsair H80
RAM: 32gb Crucial 1600mhz
SSD: OCZ Vertex 3 240gb
HDD 1: 3x 3TB Seagete ST3000DM001 (7200rpm 64mb cache, 1tb platters)
HDD 2: 4x 3TB Toshiba DT01ACA300 (7200rpm 64mb cache, 1tb platters)

Total Capacity: 21.24TB

Software and Configuration:
My server is running Windows 7 Ultimate along with FlexRAID to configure the RAID setup.
I am using all 7 drives in a raid 6 like array. I have 2 drives for redundancy and the rest as storage.

They all seem to run around ~35 degrees which keeps me content, especially considering they are in such a tight area.

Usage:
I use the storage for all of my media such as movies, tv shows, pictures, music, etc. I have it connected to my gigabit network and I access it from my htpc and main desktop.

Backup:
I currently have about 95% of my important data backed up to an external 3tb seagate drive, and I have another 3.5" 3tb drive that I plan to do a backup to and leave dormant.

Additional info:
I chose this platform for it's flexibility and robustness. The motherboard was chosen because of it's 8 sata ports which was exactly what I needed. I decided to go with software raid because it gives me all the speed I need at a not-too-bad price, since it is simply a media server. I also recently wired up my entire house with ethernet (that was tons of fun) so I could have this NAS/server sit in my spare bedroom and not have to touch it.

Photo's:

This is the NAS, sitting under my desk currently. My main computer is in the 900D above it. I am going to be moving the NAS to the spare bedroom this week, since I just wired it up with ethernet.

I'm not sure about Bobert's needs, but just FYI: ZFS will gladly gobble up as

much RAM as you throw at it.

Simply, because I got one 16gb kit for free through a contest at my old work and I bought a second matching kit when I bought a processor so it came with a bundle coupon.

Dat sexy cable management!

Thank you :) I am pretty particular about that.

CASE: Antec 1200 v3

PSU: Corsair AX750

MB: Biostar T-Series TA870U3+

CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 255

HS: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro v2

RAM: 4GB

Flash Disk: Lexar 16GB

RAID CARD 1: SuperMicro SASLP-MV8

RAID CARD 2: RocketRAID 2300

RAID CARD 3: RocketRAID 2300

HDD 1-20: Various 2TB Seagate and WD 7200 RPM drives

Cache Drive: 2TB Hitachi Deskstar 3K3000

Parity Drive: 2TB Hitachi Deskstar 3K3000

Drive Cage 1: Icy Dock MB455SFP-B 5x3 drive cage

Drive Cage 2: Norco SS-500 5x3 drive cage

Drive Cage 3: SuperMicro CSE-M35T-1 5x3 drive cage

Drive Cage 4: iStarUSA BPU-350 5x3 drive cage

Software and Configuration:

This system is running unRaid 5rc12. It is using unRaid software raid solution which is based on a Raid 4 design with a single parity disk.

The array has 20 drives in the array with a single parity drive and the additional cache drive drive to speed up writes to the array.

All this is handled by using 4 different models of 5x3 drive cages and three additional controller cards.

None of the controller cards run RAID configs, they are simply JBOD - unRaid itself manages RAID functions.

Usage:

I use the storage to centralize all the movies, telvision shows, music and picturres for all the systems in the house. Additionally backups of various sytems and user data is also stored on the system.

We have two media streamers, one HTPC and about 7-8 PC's all accessing the system.

Backup:

Critical data is backed up to a secondary unit offsite.

Additional info:

I wanted a low cost solution to provide for LOTS of storage and protection against a single drive failure. When building this unit up, I also took the opportunity to purchase 4 different 5x3 cages, which at the time, were the most talked about on the unRaid forums. I then also did reviews and comparison of the 4 units.

Unraid doesn't need ram, and being 32 bit, doesn't even use all the 4GB...

Im sorry. Maybe I was a little harsh.

But every time some has "allot" of something, questions like this comes.

You're in the 10TB+ thread, and 32GB of RAM quite common.

Again Im sorry, I came across a little strong.

I'm ok with large amounts but I just though it was strange, I'm planning on building a server myself in the near future so I'd like to know as much as possible about it.

Also,

Raphaex, the guy with the bmost storage (60TB) only has 8gb himself. that's why I thought it was strange that the 32GB jumped out that much.
