Nup. 980ti maybe but not 980.

No. They perform very similarly when overclocked as you can see in this video by Linus.

The tiny bit of extra performance that you may get is not worth it.

I actually couldn't underclock my 5 year old GPU to make it as slow as a next-gen console.

No. I think you should donate your 780 to someone in need... namely, me. In return you'll get good karma and be happy in the knowledge that you help someone game in 1080p with good FPS.

whats the point? the vibe youre sending me rn "my 780ti isnt good enough and i want the new one". the 780ti is going to be a monster for time to come regardless of new gpu's.

Nah. Dont sell it. the 780ti and 980 have very similar performance. Its not worth the upgrade.

Keep Moving Forward...

What's wrong with seeing if I can get a cheep upgrade. Or maybe even a free one. Also running games at 2k I'll need all the performance I can get my hands on as it is. Some games at ultra with aa off run at around 30fps. I also frequently get massive fps drops in bf4 and a beefier card could solve the issue. I also wouldn't mind 1 more GB of ram to play around with for modded skyrim or watch dogs.

What would be the point of selling a 780 ti for a 980? There is an almost negligible difference in performance. In fact the 780 ti beats the 980 in one or two games in the benchmarks I've seen. There is nothing you can do with a 980 that you couldn't do with a 780ti.

The only reason to do this is you simply want the satisfaction of having the latest and greatest thing, which will soon be replaced by the next latest and greatest thing, in this case probably the r9 390x which will probably blow away the 980 in a few months.

No point. The 780ti is still great. And you can SLI in the future.

for that price id just throw in another 780ti and get much better performance than a single 980 or 970's in sli.

Sadly I have to save my money for a car. Thats where the possibility of a upgrade for little or no money came to my mind.

Well, something to consider... If you can upgrade to a 980 without adding too much it would certainly be worth it as getting a second card would be cheaper if that second card could be a 980 -- unless 780Ti prices drop, or you're willing to buy used.

Well its unanimous. Selling a 780 ti to get a 980 is plainly idiotic. Sorry, but it is.

Ultimately what's what I wanted to do, since it would be a cheep upgrade for me. I will wait a generation for my next upgrade i guess, or just see what monster the red team will pull out this year.

I wouldn't do it. It's not worth the hassle of trying to get as much as you payed for, for a card that only beats it out by 5-10 FPS max. The only reason I'm going from my 780Ti to the 980, is because I was within my return window, otherwise I would have kept it and been content with it.

Though the extra GB or ram, lower wattage required, and better overclocking from what I've seen so far will be nice to have. Along with the other small additions like the new AA techniques they've added.

Yes. It's sad how dumb the idea was. Go lose $200 and then buy a card that's 2/8 fps quicker.

It could be a smart move depending how you look at it. For one if you want to go SLI in the future you wont be able to get another 780ti because they are now defunct. Second the 980 is already faster overall than 780ti and that on a brand new architecture with brand new drivers. Once drivers have matured for the 980 it will really become well seasoned and beat the pants off 780ti.

Its sad how you feel it necessary to to put down others over the internet. You should really check your self esteem/confidence to try and find the core of your issue.
