212 evo, sorted.

more info? okay, the hyper 212 will last longer, be just as easy to fit if not easier, is legendary for the price/performance, they generally run alongside h60's and h70's and and antec 620s.

nobody cares about the h40 except those who want to be able to say "my pc is water cooled".

its quieter and cooler than a h50....for half the price

Go for the Cooler Master Hyper 212, it is a great choice, there is no maintenance and is extremely reliable, because it is just a heatsink and a fan. It will probably perform better than the h40, but overall, the hyper 212 is the better choice.

Hyper 212. Anything below the h80i is not worth it.

Agreed with all the above. Im a very happy 212 user. Its cheap, quiet, and keeps my fx 8120 cold as ice! If you want to do some overclocking and watercooling go with h80i or h100i or something along those lines. Then watercooling will make kore sense!

Spend the extra few dollars and get the EVO version, the 212+ has a rough heat pipe/alum surface where it meets the CPU, the EVO has a better contact area.  IMO much easier to apply compound.

EDIT: Keep in mind the 212 is pretty tall, make sure you have the clearance!

I would go with the Hyper 212 Evo because it is less likely to fail since its cooled by fans while the h40 requires a pump and this can break. The Hyper 212 Evo is a very simple and great solution to keep your cpu cooled. Here are the dimensions of the Hyper 212 Evo: 10_cmh212e_size.jpg

if all slots of RAM are populated and you are using an asus board you wont be able to fit it in unless the ram is low-profile.

Sorry but I have a 212 and it can not even keep my duel core under 40C idle. All the good reviews are hot air this thing is cheep and only beats out the stock by 5C. I fully intend to buy a better air cooler like the Thermaltake Frio.  I say buy a better air cooler skip Cooler master all together.

My system

Z77A-G45 Gaming
Pentium G860  3.0 GHz (don't knock it its plays crisis 3)

8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport

SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7850 2GB

1TB Seagate Barracuda

With that setup the 650w psu is way overkill. A cx430 would be fine but if your upgrading in the future then its all good.

dunna know what's the issue is on your setup, but i have idles of 3°-4° above ambient on

an overclocked 4.6 sandy bridge (1.245vCORE) and 6°-8° overclocked ivey bridge

(1.235vCORE) and ambient is 25°-28°. and loaded temps are just fine 76° (SB) 79° (IB)

24/7 loads.

the CM 212 is a great budget cooler. i wouldn't suggest it for a 2011 or FX, but for the 1155,

something easy to throw on and get to productivity or gaming.

No the Radeon HD 7850calls for a 550W or better, so I wanted to have some headroom. Im not going to use a smaller power supply than AMD tells me too.

the 7850 doesn't draw anywhere near that much wattage and amd said 550 watts because they need to know it will work in any system, they don't know if it's got dual xeons and lots of hard drives or low power i3 with a single ssd so they assumed the worst. a cx430 is fine for your setup.
