Gaming, 1440p 60hz or 1080p 144hz

Aleks

Title asks it all. I was set on buying a 1440p monitor for gaming. Is 1440p really that much better than 1080p for gaming? Is it worth more than a smoother experience?

I just picked up a 144hz monitor (1080p) and I've gotta say so far its pretty nice....But at 24" I do wish the resolution was a bit higher as at times it looks a bit pixelated :/

So...I kinda wish I may have gone 1440p instead of 144hz.

Depends.I personally want my games to look amazing so I'd pick 1440p. If you want your games to feel smoother, then 1080p 144hz

Depends on the physical size of the monitor. If you're comparing at 27" 1080p to a 1440p monitor then the difference will be night and day.

If you're comparing a 20-22" 1080p monitor to a 1440p monitor, then difference while still noticeable will not be as drastic, but having a monitor as large as 27" with the ppi that 1440p offers is what's great about it.

Once you have that sorted, it's a matter of 60hz vs 144hz. I've never played on anything higher than 60hz.

In my opinion, 1080 @ 144Hz is better for first person games, as having wicked-fast refresh rates and response times are pretty critical. 1440p would be better for more RTS games or games where you need to be able to pay attention to everything and see details that can't be missed.

I might be wrong.

If you play mostly fps games Id highly suggest 144hz. If not just get 1440p. I have the benq xl2420t and Id never touch a 60hz monitor again but I mostly play fps games. I'm still waiting for some nice 1440p 144hz monitors  to upgrade. Wish they'd just make a 24" IPS 1440p @144hz but thats prob not going to happen.
