optimal temperature for HDD

before adding an front intake i want to know what is the good temp for a HDD for a long life

Below 30C is usually best.
currently my temps are 41c if i add a front intake fan will my hdd temps reduce?

Below 30C is usually best.
It would reduce by a few degrees depending on how fast the rpm of the fan is and the ambient temperature.

Most of my drives are about 35-40 (All 15 are working hard), and I would say that everything above 50 is critical. 41 is a bit on the high side, for desktop drives I personally like to see around 30-35.

Temperature cycling is a much bigger killer of hard drives as it wears out mechanical parts faster. Most of these drives were probably run in servers in data centres, so they run at near constant temps. This is part of the reason google run their data centres hotter, since it doesn't affect hardware that adversely
