Which 1155 Board?

Hey guys,

I am currently getting some things together to upgrade my computer, mainly the CPU from an i7-930 to a 3770K and then of course the mainboard accordingly.

I will be using the PC for mostly rendering in 3D software like Maya, but I am not ready to fully comit to a workstation for $4000+. I am hoping that with a H80i I can run the cpu around 4.3GHz.

Now I have looked at some of the Asus boards, specifically the P8Z77-V series and the Sabertooth Z77, but frankly they are quiet pricey.

What would you say are some good alternatives?

Btw. I have a Gigabyte board and it has made me some trouble with various third party drivers etc. so unless you specifically tell me that the suggested GA-board is good, i won't trust it ;)

Is there any reason why you don't wanna wait for Haswell? It's gonna be released on the 2nd/3rd next month.

As long as it's a Z77 chipset and otherwise has the functions you need it to have, that should be good enough regardless of MFT. But Asus boards are very good, so you get what you pay for.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Haswell is only a week away, and it won't be priced that much more from the current Ivy-bridge, I would just wait at this point.

The 3770K was $20 more than the 2600K on launch at NCIX. You might as well wait.

If you really want Z77 and don't want to wait for Haswell and Z87, I can recommend the Asus Sabertooth Z77. Fantasic board.

Also I heard that the H80i is quiet noisy, so I opted for a Noctua NH D-14. I hope that will still allow me to OC above 4.2 for long periods.

The CPUs might go down in price, but the mobos will likely still be expensive. If you do decide to go Z77, the MPOWER would be a fine choice. Never been let down by MSI.

Although you could save some money and go with the GD65. You'll easily get the CPU above 4.2 with pretty much any Z77 board.

Haswell is going to be very minor to ivy, plus its not going to overclock as well as ivy, let alone sandy. There's a trend going as intel progresses, these CPUs seem to not have as much overclock head room.

I will certainly not wait another year or more for skylake! If they turn out to be far better, I ll just upgrade again then. As far as GPU goes, the next one will be a K6000 or better.

@Chenty, yeah i was actually gonna get the MPower. Good to hear some msi user experience.

@Mystikal, since I am an overclocking noob, I think 4.2 will do just fine. Now its just the question of 3770K or 4770K! thoughts? :P
