3x ROG Swift

itsjoystick

I seriously hope you aren't going to spend 7k to power some shitty tn monitors.. for that much you could get a beast pc, proper ips display on top of a 2k Wacom Cintiq for production work.

I will never understand the mindset of a gamer with too much cash to throw around recklessly.

Well, technically it's about $5400. But right now I think that I am going to game on just one 1440p monitor(or 4k), using two titan blacks, with two additional 1440p monitors for productivity. So either a swift in the middle with 2 pb278q's on the side, or all pb278q's. That would be about $3500 or $3800 with a swift.

Also, not sure if you know much in this area, but you mentioned it, so i figured I'd ask.

I've been looking at the Wacom cintiq 22HD. Would you recommend this or a different model?

Also, would pa279q's be worth it over the pb278q's?

The PA279Q is a specialist version of the PB278Q with a different panel, which is capable of 10-bit colors, that is the only difference.  The Titan Black is not capable of 10-bit color output and neither is any other GeForce or Radeon card.  You would need a Quadro or FirePro workstation card to take advantage of that feature, and unless you do professional work in the AdobeRGB color space and need 10-bit colors, there is just no point since no normal consumer programs are programmed with 10-bit colors anyway.

If you aren't going to get a G-Sync monitor, I'd recommend triple R9 290s.  It won't be quite as powerful as triple Titan Blacks, but it will be fairly close and cheaper than even just 2 Titans (although it sounds like cost isn't a big issue, but I'd think spending less is still nice).  Eyefinity is a better multi-monitor solution than NVIDIA surround, so it's preferable over NVIDIA unless you need G-Sync or some other reason to get NVIDIA. (Also if you like looks, the lack of crossfire bridges is kinda nice ;))

Wait... you can't use g-sync with surround? And g-sync doesn't support SLI, or the monitor itself?

So far G-sync supports up to 2 GPU's, and if you get 2 295x's then that's 4 GPU's so you will not benefit from G-sync at this time but nvidia is working on a patch to allow upto I think 3 way SLI, not sure about quad SLI.

Ok, so after receiving a bunch of advice, and researching on other sites, I have some new questions.

1. I was about to ask if a single 295x2 would work with gsync since sli doesn't....but then I was like, DeRp

2. Will will 295x2 crossfire be able to handle most current games at 144 fps on a single swift, while running the desktop on the others?

3. Will I even be able to hook up two 295x2's to a 3 monitor eyefinity set up with the swift?

4. will the 295x2's be able to utilize the ultra low motion blur technology on the monitors, or is that nvidia only like gsync?

G-Sync works with surround Tom Petersen recently did an interview at pcper -

Pairing an r9 295x2 with a swift is a complete waste as the gsync tech is adding about 199$ to the monitor. So if you were to get three that would be equivalent tossing 600$ out the window. I had an R9 295x2 for two days, and let me tell you the experience was not pleasant at all , i encountered many driver problems (dx9 games like smite, skyrim stutter like crazy and if you alt tab you get horrible audio distortion) and throttling/ overheating issues even in PUSH PULL! Imo best gpu choice is 3 titan blacks, or WAIT for 800 series as those cards are coming with TWO dp inputs. which means you would only have to by two cards and not 3. Also the driver that supports triple g-sync surround would be out by then as well. :)

By the time I get around to ordering the parts, hopefully the 800 series will be out. in which case I will most likely go with that.

Update:

I just watched the WAN show, and HOLY CRAP Lg's new monitors look amazing! The 24 inch is a little dissapointing, but right now I am definitely considering the curved ultra widescreen, and the true 4k one. So I was thinking one of those monitors in the middle, with two of these: http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-27MP65HQ-P-led-monitor to either side, as well as a pair of 800 series cards.

I don't think I am going to game in surround anymore, but I would still like 3 monitors, and I could make use of them. I would game on the middle ones, and the other two would be used for productivity, and maybe have a browser open while I'm gaming.

I would absolutely love the newly announced LG 21:9 curved monitor to game on. But I am now sure how that would feel with two monitors on either side, or if I could even find a stand for such a setup. Maybe I could put them in portrait, and possibly keep all three in my field of view. I am not sure.

I also wouldn't mind the new true 4k monitor from lg, but I don't like how it would look with the middle monitor being taller than the side two. I could possibly put the side two in potrait and it would look more uniform, but it is hard to tell without seeing it xD

Welp, I just realized those monitors I just linked are only 1080p :( I really liked the thin bezels. I guess I would use the asus pb278q then.

I vote on the 2x295x's they are already water cooled and just look sexy, titans are overpriced.

You could still put a custom loop on 295x2's, as strange as that sounds. There are a bunch of waterblocks available already.

You probably knew this, but just checkin :P

Bought a powermac G5, expect a mod log sometime in 2015

I've since changed my mind on doing three swifts. I decided it would be better to go with an ips monitor setup, but I am still trying to figure out which monitors to use.

Yeah you just need a minimum of 3GPU's each with Displayport and you still won't get a decent frame rate at 1440p.

I suppose it will be, but 3 1440p displays is a lot more demanding then a single 4K monitor.

op said he would only use center monitor for gaming then the sides for other stuff. if we're talking x3 1440p then yeah that res just in not going to happen at 60+fps. but swift in center for 144hz and 1440p for gaming with ips on the sides for movies and web... do want.

Oh yeah I forgot that, but it's an absolute waste buying another 2 Swifts just for productivity, it's the best gaming monitor on the market and he planned to buy 3 just so he could use 2 of em to look at Facebook and YouTube.
