GTX 780 vs R9 290x.... Again.

I heard that the R9 is better for 4K and stuff but is it actually? Which will be more worth it's price for a 1080p or a 1440p?

I am going to water cool so the temps don't matter to me... I need to know which one is better in preformance and power consumption.

Another question I have is: Whats the diffrence between The R9 290x and 290?

The 290 is just a slightly cut-down 290x. The 290 is as good as a 780, the 290x is better than a 780. The power consumption will be slightly higher on the 290x, but the difference isn't night and day.

No notable difference on the 290/290x, not with the $80 extra, and yes, the 4 gb VRAM will help loads on more than 1080p, there for the 290 will beat the 780 easy on 1440/4k

780 and 290 might trade spots at 1080p but with newer games and/or at 1440p the 290 will pull ahead. The 290X will likely be better then the 780 everywhere, however the non-X is more worth the price IMO

The 290 and 290X are technically the same card, but due to the chips being binned, the 290s will run at lower clock speeds compared to the equivalent model 290x, and it will also not overclock as well.

290x crashes the 780 or go with ti

I'm not really a fanboy. But there are some cases where the 290x outperforms the 780ti. However, you would be correct in saying the 780ti is the overall better card.

290x over 780 easy. If you can afford the Sapphire vapor-x go for it!
That being said, if you end up getting a 780 it trades blows with the 290 (non x) which is still pretty good.


IMO go whatever has the better deal ATM.
