Dual 670's or a 780ti

Hello guys. I just finished building my brother a custom AMD build, and it gave me the urge to upgrade my PC. My current hardware is:

 

i7 3770k @3.5

Nvidia Gtx 670

Asus P8z77 v-lk

8gb ram

and cant remember 850w psu or 750w? Ahhh its really late right now need sleep lol

 

So i'm stuck on whether to get another 670 to run sli or just simply get a 780 ti. I'm not really into running the latest games on uber max settings which my lonely 670 does a good job at.. If i were to sli would i need to upgrade my case fans? they are currently stock fans.

Get a 780ti for better performance.The 670 sli option might be more of a heat and noise output for your pc.

Defenetly 780 Ti. To know if you need to upgrade your case fans for SLI we would need to know what case you are using  .

290X because it's a damn good value.

 

You could get a 780TI if you wanted to push 120 FPS (or really want Nvidia).

 

1 good card >>> 2 decent cards

You answered your own question if you are not running the lastest games.


Your cpu will be good for a long time for gaming, if you are seeing to push into higher-end gaming, then either get a current 290/290x or wait for a 880 which will perform much the same as a 780ti, but for less money.

you could also keep this one for now, and wait for the 800 series and see what they have to offer

if the 800 series isnt too great, theres always loads of high end cards of the previous series on ebay and stuff

even then, it doesnt hurt to see what it has to offer, the 670 isnt bad at all. and can still game on it pretty well

Though you said that you don't need to play things on max settings so factually an upgrade is not needed. That being said I know the feeling you're having, I would suggest building another system to tinker with instead of messing with your main rig. That's what I did and it worked like a charm(see my signature for my build log for Twofold).

Get another 670 as that will give you the same performance as the 780ti for much much cheaper. Then in the future when you need to uograde you can get the 800 or 900 series.

As a previous owner of 670 SLI, I'll tell you that it isn't too great. Doesn't do 1440p very well at max settings, and if at 1080p, doesn't do as well as a single 780, 290, whatever high-end card you choose. From my experience, I recommend only doing SLI/Crossfire with high-end cards. I've had: 6950, 580, SLI 560, CFX 7950, SLI 670, and CFX 290. I can say that SLI 560 was a joke, SLI 670 @ 1440p was decent, and CFX 7950 and 290 @ 1440p have worked great for games that have a Crossfire profile.

 

I would get the 780Ti over the second 670, but my personal preference is the used R9 290s that are flooding the market.

I would SLI if I had a 670 already, it just makes sense pricewise.

If the price you pay for the second GTX 670 isn't too much it is worth it in my opinion.  I am hoping to add a second GTX 670 someday.  I say buy used if you can.

In regards to 1440p full ultra with a new game check out this video playing BF4 that way.

It looks pretty damn good to me.



Also ...

Even at a higher resolution, 2560 x 1600, you get awesome framerates.  Look at the above video for information that will make you want to get a second GTX 670.

at 1080p how well do you want? a single 660 Ti does a great job with most games at max so 2x 670s can't be too bad. and when was the last time you ran these tests? what driver version did you use?

I've been wondering the same about my evga 660 ftw edition. I really want SLI for the looks (stupid reason I know). But there's no way in hell I can afford two 780's, let alone 1 to begin with lol. Still haven't figured out what I'm gonna do to upgrade.

To go with a second 670 would be:

 

A. Cheaper

B. Easier.

C. Just as fast as a 780ti

 

Getting a 780 ti would mean selling your current card and then dumping tons of cash onto an overpriced GPU that won't offer better performance.
