What did you name your computer?

Murphy's Law, because I'm a hardcore pessimist when it comes to ordering parts. I know that most sellers take good care of shipping, but whenever I read a messed up review...

In the long long ago, back when I had the original Xbox, it had the factory-generated name "Stompy". That tickled my fancy and I took to calling my main tower that from then on.

Weird things inspire my computer names.

My old computer was called, "Hatham", it was slow, but reliable.

My new desktop is called, "Crimson", because it's the heart of my computer world, and is valuable.

My laptop is called, "Eragon", it's quite powerful and very powerful.

These names come in real handy when you're looking for something over a network of twenty or so devices.

'Computers and computer components are the same thing, that's common sense'.

Erm no, I'm pretty sure an I7 980 is not a computer.

Linus is my fetish.

  • 1 year later...

Computer1

Would be cool if I got a notification saying "Computer1 has escaped" when it disconnects from the network, or "Computer1 is not happy" when it blue screens.

Bonus points if you get the reference.

That really depends on whether the computer wants to work properly or not. The days where the computer is functional, Beatrix Beckett. On the days where it's 100+ degrees outside and in, Hot and Hotter...

(air cooled, no water or mineral oil madness, no fish have been harmed for this build, they are all happy in there!)

Mine's called "Mr.Screwover" due to the amount of times it has literally F***** me over with files and etc. To be honest might change it some time soon as it is behaving itself now.

Some people prefer a challenge, I just band my head against a wall until my method works...

I’m a huge fan of aviation, with some of my favourites being first generation airliners in trijet configuration. Thus, it’s no surprise that I’d name my computers after planes.

My nomenclature is as follows: Model of aircraft + Model of GPU

My first ever build got the name “DC-10-50TI” (McDonnell Douglas DC-10 + GTX 1050 TI). I then upgraded the graphics card a couple months later to a GTX 1060, making the computer a “DC-10-60”.

My second build is an ITX build. I found it fitting to give it the name of a smaller aircraft. I gave it the name “CRJ750” (Bombardier CRJ700 + GTX 750).

My third build is a super tiny STX build, so I went even smaller for the name: “Legacy 630” (Embraer Legacy 600 + Intel HD 630).

My fourth build is going to be dual socket with an as of yet unknown graphics card. :) So, no name...yet.

Ignore the crate the tv is on...I’m sort of in a temporary living situation right now while I find a new place. :P

Resident smart (car) fanatic and lover of trijet airliners. One day you'll probably see me on one of those "Hoarders" shows, only I'm buried under a pile of 50 smart cars.

Rigs (all named after aircraft )

- DC-10-60 (GTX 1060 Gaming Machine)
- Falcon 550TI (GTX 550 TI Fun ITX Build)

- Legacy 630 (Convertible Desktop/Laptop Experiment)

- A340-750 (Dual Xeon GTX 750 Sleeper)
