Current speed is higher than target speed

I am running a Amd fx 4170 at stock.

But in Amd overdrive the Current speed is higher than target speed.

The stock fequency is 4.2 ghz but it is running at 4.55 ghz

I have not over clocked it in any way and turbo boost is off, I have checked my bios setting and every thing is at stock.

Does anyone know why this would happen?

Thank you for reading

^that

And... What does cpu-z say?

The bios is just all set on default I haven't changed anything in it.

And cpu-z says the same thing.

Right, but usually the BIOS gives you clock readings. It should give you the clocks you're seeing if the CPU is truly operating at that frequency. What motherboard do you have?

My mother board is a Asus m5a97 le r2.0

I went to the bios and,

The speed was 4588mhz  max speed was 4200 mhz and intended speed was 4200mhz.

The voltange is 1.425v

So I went to advanced settings and they were

Enhanced power down         Auto

cool n quiet                          enabled

C1E                                     enabled

SVM                                     enabled

Core C6 state                      enabled

Hpc Mode                            enabled

Amp master mode               Auto

And in the bios there are 3 settings Power saving,Normal and Asus optimal(its on optimal).

Also when I use Amd Overdrive to OC the cpu and I increase the core multiplyer to 21.5 x to push the frequency to

a target speed of 4300mhz the current speed is 4659mhz.

With the cpu at current speed of 4551mhz it is stable but I would like to know why the current speed is higher.

Thanks for the reply's.

Is it possible that ASUS Optimal settings are causing the problem? Could you put it on normal to see what happens?

lol.. Solved. That setting will enable a preset overclock.

i think they know what they're doing over there at Asus. They prolly tested hundreds of chips with the stock coolers and that preset.

Does the motherboard have any switches on it? Like a TPU switch?

aw crap. lol why are we trying to reset an ok overclock...?

Yeah, look for a tpu switch. Unplug the rig from the wall first.

I need a disclaimer for this: "I am not responsible for any destruction of a stable overclock."

It might be an option in the BIOS.

Yeah. I was thinking you might an option in the BIOS to turn off the TPU functionality. But I guess not.
