Delay "Unable to load the webpage because the server sent no data"

I don't know if what I'm going to say makes any sense but here we go.

 

I'm trying to download some pdf documents but the pdf documents don't currently exist, they're compiled on the fly from a list of articles generated by a search engine. Basically the process if the following: I do a search with keywords, some hundreds of articles get pulled up, I can select  50 of them and download them in pdf. However, when I select  too many, I get a "Unable to load the webpage because the server sent no data." This however doesn't happen all the time, and it seems to be dependent on the server's ability to compile faster than chrome will declare  that nothing more is happening.

 

So yeah basically I suspect it may be because Chrome expects a faster response if that makes any sense... is it possible to tell chrome to give it more time?

 

I'm able to pull them by groups of 20 but that makes my life suck and I'm pretty sure my diagnosis is right because the website is slow and sluggish (and largely unresponsive) while it's compiling the pdf and after I get the "no data received" message it remains sluggish for a few seconds, leading me to believe that it's still compiling it but then doesn't send it because google chrome has stopped waiting for it.

 

Note: Other browsers don't work.

Are you the developer of the site?

 

I think there's something up with the server side of the site... Probably something to do with maximum file sizes/length that the compiler can output...

No I'm doing a press review with a terrible aggregator but I have to use it because my research is in French and this POS is apparently the worst we've got. I don't think it's about maximum file sizes because if you retry a bunch of times sometimes it'll go through even though it failed 10 times before.

Sounds more like an inefficient program imo... The problem's most likely on the server side of things so you can't really do anything about it unless your're the developer or the administrator...

Guess I'll just be doing some grunt work that software really ought to be doing... sucks for my employer I guess... and for my sanity.

I know how you feel... I had a part time job compiling technical papers from web archives and one of the sources gave the papers in a 1-pdf-per-page and one of the papers had over three hundred pages...
