Yus I have, mm-hmm: Hoshī Update - ASUS PRIME X570-PRO Motherboard.

I did notice that its RGBs lit up like a Chrimbus tree when I flipped the power supply switch on, even before powering on the PC. Uncertain whether the indicator/debug LEDs (CPU, DRAM, VGA, Boot Device, etc.) on my board do the same thing after shutdown, though. 🤔 Uh, I left the PC running overnight to fold proteins, kek. 748540861306110033.gif?v=1

(If I see the same thing happening, will make note of it in an edit to this post.)

@Spider Man It's building time !

You can take a look at all of the Tech that I own and have owned over the years in my About Me section and on my Profile.

I'm Swiss and my Mother language is Swiss German of course, I speak the Aargauer dialect. If you want to watch a great video about Swiss German which explains the language and outlines the Basics, then click here.

If I could just play Videogames and consume Cool Content all day long for the rest of my life, then that would be sick.

I'd want to read "The Empire Writes Back" just for the title. (The postcolonialism is a plus)

IRC, it would be cheaper, with this budget, to chuck a single Epyc 16 core into a supermicro board.

If your buying new maybe. Im looking to upgrade my Plex server to Server grade hardware as I want to start running a few VM's and such. Im looking at used Intel hardware , I found Motherboard, 64 Gigs of EEC memory and a 8c 16t Xeon for like $550 on eBay. Granted its a Sandybridge based Xeon, but for the purposes Im looking at it would work fine.

I've used laptops most of my life (born in 2001, mom was poor, dad was divorced and, in the military, and didn't want anything to do with us kids outside of the summer months) so I didn't get my first computer until 2013 (I was 12 then). I've had 4 laptops (I include the surface pro 2017 though it's more of a tablet) and with the stimulus check decided to opt an for a desktop. I got a M1 Mac Mini, with an LG 4k Monitor, and my own accessories that I plan to make better but am dealing with fine right now, but I digress.

My latest purchase is for ergonomics, I don't want to RSI, and prefer the soft feeling of memory foam over mouse pad+wood. I got me a Hyper X wrist rest. They are out of stock on Amazon until late March, but they said a "used - like new" one was available. I got it, and if it weren't for me buying it myself, I wouldn't have known it was used. (Ignore hair, my kitten likes to lie between the area on the right where my desk heater is)

I don't think you have to apologize for having a kitten! If anything, we'd just want you to share a picture of said kitten.

See, for Plex that would work unless you needed some features that are similar to NVENC for some types of content.   I built a plex server with an i9 and a Quadro, but got tired of the bugs for the 4k bluray aspect.   So, I'm just using the i9 for that due to the amount of traffic backed by 4k content.  Then when I move out west I'm using the i9 as my fiancee's gaming CPU.   This file server has to be more like used in a business sense, have raid, the ECC, etc.

Swapping the Epyc out as mentioned for a newer one.   I know 750ws is overkill, but it's more for the extra SATA and a few reasons not because "wattage".   I talked to Luke and a few others about that.   The AKGs are required because ya know have you ever sat next to a server?  If I wanted to listen to industrial metal all day I'd listen to Strapping Young Lad.

If your willing to shuck drives, you should go for some 12tb wd. best buy had them on sale for around 180usd.

Canon Powershot ELPH 360 HS for $100. My phone takes good pictures but a real camera takes much nicer ones, even a little point and shoot like the Canon. Much much better low light performance and 12x optical zoom are very nice for $100 compared to getting a phone that can match it. I've had a old powershot for a long time but it's getting beat up and only 8mp, time to upgrade.

Well, I might go with Toshiba NAS N300s instead as they're more reliable.  WD does own their rival there, for reliability, which is HGST.  I haven't checked that one site in awhile that tests all the drives, so it might be different.  But, the problem is I have to stay at no more than 2500 before tax and other fees.  So, 12TB enterprise/NAS wouldn't work.  But, with this case supporting up to 12 drives it's possible in the future.  Debating mainly between N300 and a different Seagate line, but before I finalize on that I am making Linux distro and other decisions first.  If I go normal WD it would probably be reds.

You must of heard this a million times, but in case you didn't. If it is going to be a storage/media/plex server, use Unraid. Especially for parities and expansion.

I'm considering putting together a router out of spare parts, but needed more ethernet ports. 6 more should be sufficient. Might put wireless into the machine as well, but have read the transceivers in regular wireless network adapters don't do well, so might just use an older router as a wireless access point.
