As someone who's always maintained that you'd be crazy to spend money on anything Apple, I have a hard time admitting to my latest purchase. Just ordered an M1 Macbook Air, 16gb.MacBook Air with M1 review: A near-perfect laptop | Laptop Mag
Image from Google. It takes a few weeks to arrive.
Reason for the M1; I got a free 2011 Macbook Pro and am impressed by how well it runs for a 10 year old beastie. Compatibility is hit or miss but the performance for 'general internet usage' is just stupidly good. It outperforms my 2017 Dell Latitude E7470 with double the ram and a 6th gen i5 instead of a 2nd gen. Honestly impressive. So I sold the Dell, had some money to spare, bought the Air mostly because I'm intrigued with this whole M1 thing. I am way too dependent on Windows and the software that runs on it for which there's no MacOS alternative that I can deal with, also I loathe finder compared to Windows Explorer. It's so unwieldy and slow to work with. But for day to day 'secondary computer' usage, this is just a really cool bit of kit. Wonder how I'll think about it in 6 months from now ;).

If you're going to be pushing big power through that socket keep in mind that some sockets made by FoxCon were not as robust as those made by Lotes. I recall this being an issue with 1st gen i series stuff, not sure if it got ironed out by then. Burnt pins and CPU pads are not fun but did happen back in the day. My Xeon X3470 I play with from time to time can suck down 350W @ 4Ghz doing Prime95 torture. That's a lot of power on those little sprung contacts.

Just in time for the stock to fix itselfTM.

I don't plan on going H.A.M. with any of it. My plan is to drop the Delidded 3770k into my sig rig. Previous owner claimed it does 4.5GHz around 1.3v, I'm going to shoot for 4.4GHz around 1.25v (that should equate to around 4.8GHz on Sandy Bridge because of Ivy Bridge's IPC increase). Then I'll take the 2600k from my sig rig and build another system with it utilizing the P67 board (if all goes according to plan).

MiiKARE Aluminum Monitor Riser

Got it for $16.99 (not counting taxes, free shipping) from Amazon. 😁

Aluminum surface, but has plastic feet. Height is adjustable, has three levels (4.5 cm, 7.3 cm, 9.3 cm).

20201215_222814.jpg

Current Desk Setup!

Two birds with one stone: monitor is now raised, and there's more desk space for muh keebs! 🥰

...I actually have a lot more space than the pic above implies. There's a nice 13 cm (5 in) between the monitor riser and the deskmat. 🤔

Oh, and something something better posture, something something. 👍

2nd last item before I have everything to build my first pc. Last will be a normally priced 6800xt because I think I have a greater chance of dying to a meteor than getting a 6800xt even with a discord bot.Screenshot_20201216-220039.thumb.png.80bad36db489b9d41e5cae08d93ac950.png

Nothing to show for it, yet, but I made the last payment on my motorcycle a few months early. Basically a Christmas present to myself, since there's no way I'll get a 3060 Ti any time soon. Hopefully the title will be in the mail in a few weeks, so then it's no more vehicle payments for a long time.

My Current Setup:

AMD Ryzen 5900X

Kingston HyperX Fury 3200mhz 2x16GB

MSI B450 Gaming Plus

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

EVGA RTX 3060 Ti XC

Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB

WD 5400RPM 2TB

EVGA G3 750W

Corsair Carbide 300R

Arctic Fans 140mm x4 120mm x 1

Used xtrfy m42 retro color on local market ... still not available here brand new in the usual retailers so it must have cost a lot to the original owner to import that from the US ... he used it 2 days and didn't like it so he decided to sell it.  for the price I got it, it was really a steal.  Will have it on Christmas, my sister is using it in the meantime ... it will be my first lightweight mouse so I hope I will like it.  Will post picture when I get it.

A Lytro Illum light field camera.

Came out in 2015, had actually preordered one back then becasue I was intrigued by the tech, but then cancelled my preorder after the final price of $1600 became just too much for something that is more of a novelty and has limited real-world use cases, and apparently many others did since the company gave up shortly after. At $250 basically new in box it's much more appropriate now...

Obviously the camera can't shoot itself, so here's some refocused and animated pizza instead :P

Not a Epic Game store fan at all, but I couldn't pass up the $10 coupon to get this for a cool $20.
