Put this setup together in the last lockdown in my house, made the boxes and also painted them, the sub box is very unfinished though and has been changed a bit too much...

It get's down...

nice work, I had the same idea and put together a little garage system with some old stuff I've had laying around. I bought a 360W power supply used for led strips to power the sub amp and I'm able to plug that into an outlet. I made a simple 1.5 cu ft box for an old audiobahn 12" sub then added some feet to have it down firing. The headunit runs the 6x9's and the sub is underpowered getting around 300 watts at 2ohm

New phone. Technically verizon paid for it. Got over 500 for trade in plus 250 gift card for switching. Not a bad deal! Free is always good. Iphone 12 pro I'm now one with the sheeple. 🤣

Verizon sucks ended up returning the phone. Their online login process is pulling teeth and after the switch texting didn't work so nope I'll pass. Screen felt slow compared to my pixel 4xl that has 90hz screen on it.

Still almost as powerful as the Core i9 🤣

Might get one my self in a few months when the prices drop a little and availability increases

I'm tempted to keep the 5800x preorder and then sell the 5600x. Shouldn't lose much money on it

My new laptop, an Alienware Area51 M R2. Figured time to spoil myself, base config is a 17.3 inch 1080P display, Core i7 10700 LGA1200 desktop CPU, Z490 chipset board, 16Gb DDR4, RTX2060 6Gb and a 1Tb SSD, already thrown some upgrades at it as I had some at home and one I had to buy...added a second 1Tb NVME SSD and a 1TB HDD (the space it there!) and because Dell wanted an insane price for any RAM upgrade over the base config I bought a pair of 32Gb 2666Mhz Kingston HyperX SO DIMMs and threw them in. This has to last a few years, why not have a lil fun with the spec and it's my first really nice laptop ever.

Some drawbacks though...not exactly a "thin and light" portable at about 10 pounds for the laptop alone...then you add in the weight of not one...but TWO 330 watt power bricks it came with. This is more like portable desktop replacement and gaming rig when needed. I am toying with the idea of putting a i9 10900K into it if there's enough thermal overhead available, that'll only come with testing of course.

Considered one of the worst D&D games, but it was made using the Descent engine, and just wanted a sealed copy.

I spontaneously put a $560 bid (plus tax) on a 3950x on an eBay auction and won xD

I'll update with a pic once it arrives.

Follow up, the 3950X arrived today!

image.png.29f9d11ab3013d94fd4476789428d7c8.png

Luckily I have the Asus Crosshair VI Hero, one of the X370 motherboards that can support the 3950X stock after a BIOS update (I don't plan on OC-ing). It runs a bit hotter than the incumbent 1700, but that is to be expected when you double the core/thread count, but my custom loop can keep it cool.

Happy with the spontaneous purchase. Do I need it, definitely not; the 1700 was plenty for what I do. This is absolutely an impulse buy and we've all been there. These purchases don't need a rhyme or reason other than because I can. I'll only regret it if prices of new 3950Xes drop to under what I paid for in the coming weeks.

Also, today I learned that I hate cleaning thermal paste off of CPU's especially on PGA CPU's. You have to be extra careful to make sure not to bend a pin when cleaning that goop off and that took forever.

That's because it has a form factor of a laptop but it is actually a desktop replacement (DTR), not a laptop. As you can tell by the fact that it has a desktop CPU. Claiming these things are "notebooks" or "laptops", to me, is like saying an iMac is a portable PC because it has just a single plug.

LOL I knew that going in with the purchase. Thin and light can only do so much, I wanted something I cold take to say a LAN party or gaming event and not lug a larger desktop around with all the pieces. Not can this thing run circles arond some desktops itself, as a gaming laptop it suits my needs perfectly! It'll  be even great for when I take it with to go visit family that's a good 26 hour drive away, it may not be as fast on the whole as my main desktop...but it certainly isn't lacking much.
