Why do you require so many cores?

I know you were asking someone else, but I'm currently working on a dual Xeon build at the moment.

You can get 8 core/16 thread mainstream CPUs now and I would argue most people don't need that many. ;) It's one of those things where it's not necessarily required, but fun to play with and cool to have. I know for myself I'll be experimenting with and running VMs, so the extra cores and threads will be put to good use. :)

Thanks for the assist! Yep you can get 8 core 16 thread chips all day but those are rather pricey but for finding a used Dell Precision with dual Xeon 5420s gives me an honest 8 core 8 thread machine that I intend on doing some VMs with also and the fun factor...I had a friend over last night and told him about the dual processor machine, he was actually impressed when I let him use it for a bit. That said I've blown off the pre-installed Win10 and gone to 7 Pro. For what I paid I couldn't build it as cheap as I got it ready to fly. Oh and side benefit, it HAD a Dell branded Win7 Pro DVD in it's optical drive. score for $250 for the machine.

And my final thoughts on this machine, why the hell not? Seriously...it's something to simply fool around with. Sure my i7 7700K rig walks all over the dual Xeons...but sometimes ya gotta have something you can just play with.

Yes, if you got the money to "waste" (IMO) on the hobby. It is different if its required as your main income source.

If it helps with internet tabs I would be interested, but on certain things I just don't willy nilly spend. The internet tab thing is deeper then it seems, could be an OCD element.

Got this on Monday, I have regretted it ever since I handed him the cash.  It looks nice but it's a POS and I'm finding new things wrong with it every day.

Well......... I wanted a project car and now I've got one

*edit: isn't there a car related thread?

I got a new pair of shoes. I don't typically like Nike shoes, because they hurt my feet. But these feel flat, no arch support.

It's a nice Christmas gift to me. This material seems resistant to dirt or stains, as they're made for turf...? Idk. We'll see if the pesos I paid are worth it.

Yep, older Xeons...and in my case...a complete rig ready to go with even older Harpertown LGA 771 Xeons. Right now running XP Mode under 7 Pro on it and honestly the speed of real cores instead of hyperthreading is making itself known. She's quite quick for being a decade old.

Bought a couple games for my 2DS.  I decided to start playing it again and realized there’s a bunch of great titles I’ve missed.  So I made a list of games I’ve missed and I got a couple yesterday.

I’m wondering if the New 2DS XL is worth it, or if my og 2DS will be fine.  As far as I know, all the games are compatible across the 3DS and New 3DS XL.

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

It doesn't matter what you play games on, just play good games you enjoy.

Also, the cable. I probably wouldn't buy it on my own but since it came with the headphones - I'm not going to complain. On the contrary - looking at it I can kind of understand why wealthy audiophiles spend so much on cables. Sound quality discussion and controversy aside, it's simply beautiful and well crafted. Also, much shorter than the stock one which helps if you keep your DAC on the desk.

LEGO Imperial TIE-Fighter (75211) on eBay for $53 shipped.

3EB24B16-360E-4A5B-BB7D-D525D0BDEBB3.png.c6015bd7fa8c2c24c07593f5731df452.png

MSRP is $70 on this baby. Because it’s a 2018 set it’s more than likely already out of production. Also the fact that this is the first generic TIE-Fighter from LEGO in a while should increase its resale value by a good margin.

Should be an easy flip. Kinda thinking about this being a side business.

This game is a really pleasant to play and the soundtrack is amazing, game is pretty short, but still worth it IMO
