the tri-x cooler on these cards has a design flaw where fans start rattling after some time.

Needless to say , it happened on mine , so i tried to pull a linus and zip tie 120mm fans to it . It worked well enough until i noticed one card started running at over 90C . I smelled burning electronics , so i shut the pc off. Put the original cooler on , but the card wouldn't post.

If that wasn't enough to kill it , i went poking around with a multi-meter and accidentally shorted 2 pins on the pcie 8 pin , causing it to spark , so...

My two R9 290s from early 2014 are still going strong :P I also had sparks flying when I was probing Vcore from the back of the core while running Furmark... RIP. Good ways for cards to go tho, push them till they crack! Never went adventuring with a multimeter though :P

With how hard I push my 7950 that's been trying to die for the better part of 3 years or so now, I feel like when it finally goes it'll be interesting. If MSI ever gets off their ass with my 960 RMA and I get something back that isn't fucked, this poor card will live on at my grandmas mining zcash and heating a cold room. :P

Is that a dyed granite "rubber" ducky in the background?

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Totally forgot about this thread.

I have gotten a few new things :D

The Ultimate Ear Reference Monitors came, so did the musician earplugs with -18dB filters. I have also bought a set of Genelec 8040 and a Meier Audio Corda StageDAC, plus some engineering books though I don't think anyone is interested in seeing those. The audio gear sounds absolutely fantastic, I don't regret buying any of it.

It has certainly been a rough period for my wallet :D

Nice.

I would like to have CIEMs some time, but my Campfire Audio Orions are pretty nice. And my $20 Etymotic earplugs are decent enough. They have Genelec monitors in a few of the acoustics rooms at my university, and in the anechoic chamber.

Right now I'm saving to build a big speaker system. Altec 511B horns, some vintage Emilar compression drivers, some sort of large 12-15" woofers I haven't picked yet, and i am about to buy a Junokuchi tube amp to power the speakers. Only about 2w, but with the crazy efficiency of horns, should be more than enough. That will be my summer project, building the speakers.

I can highly recommend CIEMs, mine just disappear in my ears, like they are so comfy. I mainly got them because normal IEMs slowly fall out. Like I need to push normal IEMs in every 2-3 min, this is also why I got custom musician earplugs.

My old school also had some Genelec speakers and I didn't think much of them, because the setup they had going, like they were so far apart and they used monitors that were made for close range, so it sounded very thin if you were in the back of the class. They are pretty amazing close up, very detailed and a fairly spacious sound.

Sounds like a interesting project you want to do. :)

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

My new house is finished! I went to view it on tuesday and its beautiful beyond words, but its still waiting for the land registry to finish, also the withdrawal date on my deposit savings is 12th March so thats the earliest I can buy, though it probably wont be registered by then anyway.

When I was putting my shoes back on though I accidentally muddied the brand new carpets at the entrance noooooooo!!!! The seller actually yelled at me in horror and told me they wouldnt be cleaning that, ofc I told them dont worry, I'll clean it when Im next here :(

I was actually wanting to take a mat with me to use but I didnt have one, and my dumb brain didnt realize I could have just taken some towels instead. I'll need to take a load of towels and some baby shampoo to clean the carpet next time. I'll be visiting again early march when my dad's back from his holiday as he will be able to inspect it better then me.

I only took pictures of the snags I saw, as did the seller who will be passing them on to the builders to sort out:

Nothing fancy there, just horrible snags.

How does that look like a sausage lol.

I'll need to pack that mat, some towels, a brush and baby shampoo when I take my dad to snag the house for me next month. He can look around while I clean the mess I left.

The half moon shape also matches my tiny front patch of grass which is similarly shaped. No front garden as such, just a green border between the house and pavement, but it has a nice walled off back garden that they fully did up with turfing, a tree and patio.

I'll get better pictures in March.
