Not dumb at all . The white block with two wires coming out of it is a Peltier module . Pretty much a very inefficient way of cooling , in this case cooling a cpu.

I'll give you the quick n dirty. It's a peltier cooler. One side gets cold, one side gets hot. Inefficient as all hell (wouldn't be at all shocked if that one draws 100+ watts) but it's neat.

I've wondered about hard vs soft tubing.  Do people tend to say one or the other is better?

Custom PSU cable sleeving would be pretty cool.

Generally speaking hardline will look nicer and it won't leech as much junk into the liquid, but soft tubing is way easier to do.

Is there a difference in the material the tubing is made from that would cause stuff to leech into the coolant?

Honestly I'm not too sure, but I do know that some soft tubing is more prone to leeching especially when combined with some fluids and parts.

It's a wet dual clutch transmission. It's a semi automatic transmission in simplest terms.

Does semi-auto mean it's not as simple as shifting gears with an auto transmission?

Bit too hard for me to explain I'm afraid. All I can say is Google it or watch engineering explained on YouTube.

Very nice, the MK6 was a great model, See you like New zealand also get them with and without the GTi front lights, Never noticed it as all the ones in SA only come with them, wasn't a option. Any plans for mods ?

Its automatic, but has a Manuel mode that you can use the gear stick or steering paddles that more advanced that standard auto's that offer you manuel mode, but still no clutch that the driver can use.  Funny enough with the Golfs you can only properly engage launch control is you in Manuel mode with traction control off.

Actually dual clutch transmissions are basically two 3 speed transmissions put together. Unlike traditional automatics that use multiple clutch packs to engage gears the dual clutch transmissions are built the same as manuals just the use selinoids or fluid to engage the two clutchs. It's a semi automatic (dual clutch) =/= the automatic you'll find in a standard car not even close.

Edit: not sure what your talking about with the headlights. After the warranty is up I'll be doing full bolt ons and a tune, new rims, carbon fiber front lip, rear diffuser, hood, spoiler, side skirts, and maybe some other stuff. Also had a Jetta with the tiptronic automatic way different. With DCT automatics your car will roll back because it doesn't engage the clutch all the time and doesn't use a torque converter like I mentioned. While traditional automatics have clutch packs inside it, they do not engage with the engine via a clutch pack but a torque converter.
