WHAT THE....? How am I supposed to mount the LEDs?

Go to solution Solved by mapegl,

(How did it short out your GPU? It is all plastic and rubber...)

Not entirely sure, since I didn't see how it happened, I just saw that my screen went black after I heard it fall.....

Also the end has connectors in case you want to attach another LED-strip. Those are metal, I guess that was it.

I attached it with superglue now.

http://addoncustoms.com/

Get actual LED strips. Not any of that Bitfenix/NZXT rubbish.

You are probably right. All done now though. Thanks for the link.

So I attached my new Bitfenix Alchemy LED-strip and.......it fell down once......fell down twice.......and now I am pissed, because when it fell down the third time it shorted out my GPU!

How the hell am I supposed to mount that stupid thing? I used some other tape the third time, apparently it is no better......AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

...anyways help me pleeeease! How do you do it? I don't want to use super glue...

+1 I even removed the power LED from my monitor because it annoys me.

I dislike LEDs being on everything, I choose components free from LEDs mostly. Have you seen Linus' PC? The RAM inside flashes constantly with LEDs and it's on his desk with the window right in his peripheral that would drive me absolutely insane.

It is actually really subtle. I wouldn't want my PC to shine too bright.

As someone that makes and sells LED strips, I have to say that the sticky on the back SUCKS, all factories that make the strips use 3m double sided tape which isn't the best. I suggest putting a drop of glue at each end of the strip and 1 in the middle.

I mean with serious stuff, like cyanoacrylate with the activator that makes it harden instantly. (no that was not a double entendre)

I believe it's called Zap stateside, the activator comes in an aerosol and is called ZipKicker.

If you intend to take it off, I suggest hook and loop tape. The strong kind. Get a few types at a hobby/craft store and see what sticks best. Maybe glue the velcro in place? Yeah, Zap will basically weld the two surfaces together. The LED strip would break before it would get pulled off.

haha, yeah I saw his build, waaaay too much bling Linus has going there. I however didn't remove my power LED from my rig since it is already tinted so it lights up green but is so subtle it looks like part of the box. everything else has as little as possible lighting though.

I didn't mean to come across that way.

Not your fault.

And thanks, again for elaborating on your ideas.........I just took two zip ties and attached it to the front of my case......so do you think superglue will work as well? because that is something I have right here. Or will it fall off the metal as well. I mean I know that not everything can be fixed with that stuff. I tried to glue something plastic in my fridge and that just fell off after a couple of days again.

Oh my PC still has its power LED I only took the bright blue one that's on my monitor off because it is constantly shining in my face while looking at the screen.

My PC is in the corner of the room surrounded by studio foam so I can't see it anyway. :)

ah, my awesome monitor has no noticeable LED after powered on for a few seconds. (or at least it's on the side and not very bright so I don't notice it will have to confirm that tonight)

The problem with the stock adhesive is that the strip is a hard surface. (How did it short out your GPU? It is all plastic and rubber...)

I used double sided foam tape to stick mine, and it hasn't fallen in years. Something like this:

The problem with glue is that you will probably damage it while trying to take it off. Zip ties are good if you have a place to tie them to.

Get actual LED strips. Not any of that Bitfenix/NZXT rubbish.

It does fall off (when stuck to the top of a case) even if the surface is clean. The issue is that the adhesive is really thin, and the painted surface of the case if not perfectly flat for the adhesive to properly attach. By using foam tape it will adapt to the corrugated paint surface and stick properly without ever falling off. This does make it harder to remove, but most foam tapes can be removed without damage if you are careful.
