How to switch from 2.4ghz to 5ghz wifi?

I have a 2.4 and 5ghz router as well as 5ghz usb adapter on my computer, how do i know if i'm going off 5ghz and how to switch to it? Thanks c:

The 2.4 and 5ghz should show up as different networks at you computer. (atleast they do at mine) Most of the time they got different names too. If not look at your routers configuration, and try to set different names to test it.

i'm not at home right now but i do know we have 2 diffeent network names, ones the guest though

okay no, then 3 different names ^^ atleast with my Cisco E4200 i can set up a different network name for 5ghz.

 

my setup is like "MYNETWORKNAME", "MYNETWORKNAME-Guest" and "MYNETWORKNAME-5GHZ" (i only got 5ghz for non guest accounts i think)

I have a 5GHz network and what you should see is for example. Netgear (normal 2.4GHz) and you also should see Netgear5G if you have enabled the 5GHz on your router.

in the settings make sure you rename the 5ghz channel

Yeah, as all of them have said, my naming goes like this

*SSID*

*SSID*_5GHz

*SSID*_guest

ok so i went into the settings and the 2.4ghz channel and 5ghz one are both named the same thing but only one shows up under windows O.o how can i change ssid for the 5ghz?

go to "Manual" on that page, then you should be able to change it, after that you can change it back to wifi protected setup

Basically operating systems sees identical BSSID's and assumes it's the same. Distinguishing these networks at the BSSID helps :P
