What is your favorite video game soundtrack?

bchampion96

Hi guys,

Thought I'd start this topic to see what peoples' favourite songs from video game soundtracks are. You can answer with entire soundtracks or individual songs. At the moment, mine id Questionable Ethics 1 from the Black Mesa soundtrack (composed by Joel Nielsen). Only 1 minute and 30 seconds long but by god is it good :D

As far as entire game soundtracks go,the soundtrack from Bastion by Supergiant Games (composed by Darren Korb) is really fantastic.

So it's up to you

What's your favourite?

I agree on the bastion front. Song at the end (setting sail coming home) is amazing. Has a bit of Zia's theme in it :D

There are so many... I just can't remember anything right now.. Hate when that happens. Mindfart. Mass Effect has some amazing tracks, Metal Gear, Age of Empires, Halo (can't believe I forgot(!) and yes I have to edit to mention!), but I will post this. I used to sit back in the main screen just to hear the song.

For orchestral style soundtracks, nothing beats Age of Conan:

It's probably even the best orchestral soundtrack across all of movies, television and games.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Bioshock Infinite was a game that tugged at my heartstrings and pushed and pulled at my emotions. I was joyous, then deeply saddened within a few moments. It stands with me as a game that transcended it's medium to become more. It became a story where you wish and hope with all your might that the characters will succeed, that they will prosper, only to see them fail and falter drives one to the edge.

Bioshock Infinite made me cry on more than one occasion. Elizabeth's theme at the end, after that twisting, heart-wrenching end, made me cry one last time. It is a better piece of music for the context of the story, but to me it is my favorite musical piece in a game because of it's personal context to me.

I don't know about favorite, but S4 League really struck me as having music that perfectly suits the game without distracting from the gameplay, while still managing to be good independent of the game. Of course, they kinda cheated by being developed by a company which already had a successful series of rhythm games with all custom songs... It's also pretty much the only thing that is still good about that game, if you like the music just pick up DJMAX instead.

Of course, it's also pretty far away from traditional, so probably not for everybody.

The Elder Scrolls series also has a lot of great music, definitely helps set the tone of whatever you're doing.
